Injuries happen to every athlete. Learn the specialist skills and knowledge to manage an athlete's rehabilitation and recovery. Play a part in athletes reaching their peak performance.

  • Hone your skills on placement. Choose from premier league or championship football clubs, National Rugby or Super League Rugby Clubs. You'll also be able to choose from a range of other sports and clinical environments.
  • As part of your degree, you can gain vocational qualifications to boost your employability. These include Sports-Specific First Aid, Level 4 Advanced Trauma Pitchside First Aid and the internationally recognised Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy VTCT certificate.
  • You could gain experience at major sporting events like the London Marathon or the Small Island Games. Whatever opportunities you access, you'll build confidence and learn the skills you need for your future career.

Sports therapy degree

  • You will develop a skill set that meets the demands of the sports therapy profession. When you graduate, you'll have the opportunity to become a full member of the Society of Sports Therapists (SST). This will help you demonstrate that you are industry-ready.
  • Throughout your studies, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art facilities. These facilities will help you put theory into practice, helping injured athletes return to competitive sport.
  • Explore essential areas such as joint examination and assessment, physiology, psychology, pathology, manual therapy, and rehabilitation. Develop an understanding of sports science, strength and conditioning, and functional rehabilitation.

Entry requirements

We will consider your educational achievements, predicted grades, work experience and personal statement. If you don't meet the grades for your chosen course, we will consider you for other programmes.

We know that many factors can influence the grades you achieve in school or college. If your life experience has affected your academic studies, we can take this into account. Use the UCAS Points Calculator below to check whether you are eligible.

  • UCAS: 104-112 points at A2 preferably in Biology or PE or Science
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM
  • BTEC Diploma: D*D-D*D*
  • Pass Access Course: 104-112 UCAS Points
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 104-112 points from Higher Level Subjects
  • T Level: M preferably in Biology or PE or Science
  • IELTS: 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5
  • GCSEs: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths and English or equivalent
  • A satisfactory Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland) is required for this course

This course will involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, this may include children. In order to ensure that the University offers places on their programmes to suitable candidates you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (formerly termed CRB).
