Lisa Hartley-Woodrow
Lisa is the Course Leader and Senior Lecturer for our BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy programme. In her capacity as Course Leader, Lisa leads the development and implementation of the programme, ensuring it maintains its exceptional reputation for delivering cutting-edge, evidence-based practices. Her commitment to excellence extends to fostering an environment where real-world application seamlessly interlinks with academic learning.
Beyond her leadership role, Lisa is actively engaged in teaching across all three years of our BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy programme. With expertise in a variety of specialised subjects, she takes on the role of module leader, guiding students through the intricacies of the discipline. Recognising the importance of holistic support, Lisa serves as a personal tutor, offering both academic guidance and pastoral care to students.
Lisa's journey in sports therapy began in 2007 when she graduated from the University of Teesside. Since then, she has amassed a diverse array of experiences, including working with esteemed organisations such as Chester City FC, the Great North Run, and Wigan Warriors RLFC. Her clinical expertise was further honed through roles at private practices, Wales Hockey, Preston North End Women’s FC and as Lead Soft Tissue Therapist at St Helens RLFC.
Transitioning seamlessly into academia, Lisa embarked on a teaching career at Edge Hill University in 2008. Here, she obtained her PGCHE while continuing her clinical work part-time. Her dedication and expertise were recognised when she joined us in 2015 as a Lecturer in Sports Therapy, eventually achieving her Senior Lecturer and then assuming the role of Course Leader in 2022.
Lisa's commitment to professional development is evident in her academic pursuits, including obtaining an MSc in Evidence-Based Practice and Medicine. Additionally, she holds qualifications as a VTCT assessor and Internal Quality Assurance, leveraging this expertise to enhance the educational experience for students. Lisa's proactive approach led her to embed the VTCT Level 4 Sports Massage Qualification into the BSc Sports Therapy course, providing students with valuable vocational training alongside their academic studies.
Here at UCLan, Lisa's influence extends beyond the classroom as she actively contributes to the organisation, management, and delivery of vocational courses for sports therapy and physiotherapy students. Her multifaceted role encompasses teaching a diverse range of subjects, enriching the educational journey for aspiring sports therapists.
Lisa's dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence make her an invaluable asset to our sports therapy programme and the broader academic community. Through her leadership and mentorship, she continues to shape the next generation of sports therapy professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive in this dynamic field.
