Named after a Preston and England footballing legend, the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre is our multi-million pound, state-of-the-art indoor facility located at the heart of our Preston Campus.

We offer a range of activities from sports clubs to instructor-led classes, court hire and a well-equipped gym.

Fitness suite

Our Fitness Suite incorporates more than 100 stations of state-of-the-art Technogym equipment including cardiovascular and resistance machines, an extensive free weight area, core area, 'Cardio Zone' and ‘Row Zone.’

Get qualified in sports coaching

We provide a range of National Governing Body sports coaching qualifications to enrich your CV and employability. From football to futsal there's something for everyone.

Class descriptions

  • F.I.T: This is how we wake up at Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre. A 30-minute conditioning session in the fitness suite using a variety of equipment, come down and get involved.
  • Yoga: Classic yoga using blocks and mats to help you align your body and achieve harmony of body, mind, and spirit.
  • Studio Weights: Want to use free weights? Want to tone and burn calories? Don’t want to train alone? Studio Weights is for you.
  • Spinning: A high intensity calorie burning cycling workout.
  • Zumba: A fun and energetic dance workout with Latin and International music and rhythm. Classes take place in a darkened room with disco lights.
  • Boxercise: This high pace workout involves a mix of pads, combinations, boxing fundamentals and conditioning.
  • Pilates: A focus on strengthening the whole body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Pilates concentrates on posture, balance, and flexibility.
  • Strength and Conditioning: Workouts featuring explosive movements with bags, dumbbells, and boxes, designed to stimulate muscles and enhance strength and power.
  • Mobility: Stretches and movements aimed at mobilizing joints and enhancing flexibility and mobility.
  • Body Blast: Full body workout incorporating anything from weights and body weight exercises to cardio kit and circuits.
  • H.I.I.T: Workouts designed to elevate your heart rate, burn calories and improve aerobic capacity.
  • Core: Sculpt and tone with ab-focused workouts that promote core strength and stability.

Charges

Students: £99 per year. To discuss membership, please enquire with the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre team.

Staff: £15 per month, for minimum of three months. Payment is taken directly from salary or via upfront payment.

Alumni: £45 per month (three months minimum). Alumni must get a Student ID card in order to gain access to sports facilities. This can be collected from the library during opening hours on the production of two forms of ID (one to be photo). Sports membership fees can then be paid directly to Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre via reception.

Casual admissions (staff and registered alumni): £5 per session.

Bookings

Exercise classes must be booked in advance using the online booking system.
