Research in the school focuses on:
- Dental materials
- Links between oral health & Alzheimer’s disease
- Dental public health
As well as core dental sciences:
- Implantology
- Periodontology
- Endodontology
- Dental microbiology
- Oral surgery
This is complemented by our research work in dental education.
Our researchers and students have access to clinical and research facilities such as biomedical and material laboratories across the University. Our goal is to support our students and researchers to produce world-leading research that leads to improved oral health.
Public Health
We work on innovations in public health aiming to engage and educate patients and practitioners. Topics include the use of antibiotics and their effect on health, the accuracy and value of information available on the Internet, the low sugar diet, prevention of gum disease, dental hygiene in elderly patients and use of language in public health.
Projects
Implantology
Our research focuses on the development of novel biomaterials for dental implants, understanding the interactions between implant modifications and the surrounding tissue as well as mechanisms triggering inflammatory reactions.
Projects
Periodontology
Our research focuses on the development of new materials for advanced gum regeneration and on studying links between periodontitis and periimplantitis and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).
Projects
Dental Materials
Our research focuses on developing new materials and tailoring and improving existing materials.
Projects
Dental Microbiology
Our research focuses on developing antimicrobial coatings and studying links between oral periodontitis and dementia.
Projects
Dental Education
We work on creating new teaching and learning strategies within dental education. For example, use of flipped learning in dental sciences.
