Biomedical Evidence-based Transdisciplinary (BEST) Health Research Institute
Our Research and Knowledge Exchange Institute offers a hub within the University and the wider Lancashire health economy and beyond. We foster researchers and collaborative research output from the bench to our patients and users.
Our focus is to enhance excellence in the health sciences through high-quality and impact research.
We aim to be recognised nationally and internationally for our research in:
- Medicine
- Dentistry
- Pharmacy
- Pharmaceutical sciences
- Biomedical sciences
- Neuroscience
- Oncology
- Nanomedicine

We aim to support areas of research excellence that:
- Address national and international challenges in health, clinical, biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences
- Promote a research approach, which is critical to addressing health threats in the human, animal and environmental interface
- Provide the evidence to influence policy and practice changes
- Are socially and economically sustainable
- Support the development of our partners' health, clinical and biomedical research strengths, providing a bench-to-bed-to-home solution.
Institute missions:

Part of this research contributes to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Research
We promote trans-disciplinary research from basic and translational investigations to patient focussed research. We foster work that integrates different phases of biomedical research as well as draws from a range of scientists and clinical professionals who collaborate both nationally and internationally.Knowledge exchange
We lead globally connected health research and education and share innovation and knowledge. We support and mentor new researchers, interact with industry and contribute to health policy and practice.Public engagement
We partner with patients, users, and carers at all stages of research. We host national and international events to foster engagement with communities and wider public.
