Are you interested in supporting patient care and working alongside doctors and the wider healthcare team? Want to help with the diagnosis and management of patients? Our MSc Physician Associate Practice course opens the door to a rewarding career.

Why study with us

  • You’ll learn in state-of-the-art facilities. Our clinical skills laboratories have a vast range of equipment. This will help you develop clinical skills in hospital and GP surgery environments.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the human body in our Human Anatomy Resource and Learning Centres. You'll also use great resources such as our Anatomage table and diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • You'll spend over 50% of the course on clinical placements with our NHS clinical education partners. This will be across Lancashire and/or Cumbria. You will receive a Student Support Grant to be used for your travel to placement/placement accommodation, valued at approximately £2,600 per year.

What you'll do

  • You’ll be taught in small groups offering unrivalled student support and direct contact hours with staff. You will be timetabled to have over 25 hours per week of direct, interactive teaching during academic time.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to learn from our MSc Physician Associate graduates who regularly attend sessions to share their experiences of working in a professional healthcare environment.
  • You’ll be exposed to variety of patients and medical conditions during placements in both urban and rural NHS hospitals and GP practices.

How to apply

Entry requirements

Please note if your application is deemed unsuccessful subsequent applications submitted within the same UCAS cycle will not be considered.

  • Applicants should hold at least 2:1 degree or equivalent in related subject such as life sciences or allied health professions
  • A postgraduate qualification at merit or distinction may be considered for admission in cases where the applicant’s first degree is lower than 2nd class award
  • Interview required demonstrating the NHS’s required values and behaviours
  • Non-standard applicants may be considered
  • IELTS: Score of at least 6.5 or equivalent
  • GCSEs: English and Maths at grade 4 / C or equivalent
  • A satisfactory criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland), Occupational Health clearance and satisfactory Fitness to Practice assessment are required for this course.

All offers of a place on this course are subject to satisfactory health screening. It is important to note that should your health screening not be satisfactory your offer of a place on this course may be withdrawn.

If you have already enrolled on the course prior to completion of your health screening, or if your health screening clearance is revoked or changes during the course, you may be required to withdraw from the course even if you have already started.

This course will involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, this may include children. In order to ensure that the University offers places on their programmes to suitable candidates you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (formerly termed CRB).
