Sport & Exercise Science

This module aims to provide you with a solid foundation on which to base the study of sport and exercise psychology by developing your knowledge and understanding of key concepts. You'll explore the link between key concepts of sport and exercise psychology and their application to real-world scenarios.

In this module you'll be provided with the key anatomical and kinesiological knowledge that’s needed to underpin profession specific practice, relating to advanced strength and conditioning sciences.

Introducing you to the concepts of kinematics and kinetics within sport science. It will develop your understanding of biomechanical measurements and mathematical modelling techniques using labs, lectures, and tutorials to analyse sports performance.

This module will provide you with knowledge and skills of the relevant aspects of anatomy and physiology and the principles of training necessary to lead an effective and safe gym-based exercise session.

On this module you'll be introduced to the principles of muscle and skeletal physiology, neurology, endocrinology, immunology and biochemical principles relating to exercise, performance and health. You'll also be introduced to the research processes and basic statistical techniques, as well as the relevant IT skills for future work.

This module aims to build on your psychology knowledge and learn the central issues of sport psychology.

This module's aim is to refine sport performance by applying Biomechanical principles. You will investigate injury prevention, material properties and design, as well as manipulation of forces and sports performance including Fluid Dynamics. The module is an introduction into the qualitative analysis of sports.

This module will provide you with skills necessary to carry out data collection and analysis of data, and to interpret critically the research findings in an applied sport and exercise physiology framework. You'll develop an understanding of cardiovascular, respiratory and muscular physiology and have ability to conduct experiments and to undertake physiological measurement.

This module will allow you to build a framework for sports coaches to develop techniques in sports performance. You will focus on technical and tactical analysis. You will also review pertinent scientific elements of training and performance.

You will gain an understanding of common sports injury pathologies. You will learn about your potential role in later stage management of these injuries, whilst working in an athlete support team. The module provides the skills to develop preventative rehab programmes which help reduce the risk of injury. It is suitable for the strength and conditioning practitioner or coach.

The module introduces the scientific basis of exercise and training prescription. You will learn sports science terminology, research with applied fitness training, and individual exercise prescription. You will study cardiovascular and resistance training and conditioning, as well as practical applications to athletic performance. The module facilitates the achievement of the criteria for the REPS Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training.

The aim of this module is to develop your understanding of the importance of sports performance to optimum nutrition. You'll be introduced to ideas on methods for nutritional and activity assessment, requirements for energy and nutrients in relation to exercise and diets for performance and recovery.

This module lets you encounter and address the challenges of a consultancy project involving research, critical thinking and problem solving. You'll focus on engagement with an organisation, group or individual and you'll use your skills to look at an identified client issue.

This module will offer you the opportunity to conduct a major piece of independent literature-based research. You will develop management skills; achieve a measure of independence; integrate different aspects of the course and; define clearly a problem to be solved.

The aim of this module is to facilitate the opportunity for you to provide match, notational analysis and technique analysis support within a high performance coaching environment. You'll apply your previous knowledge and understanding of performance analysis in a live context while supporting a high performance coach and team. 

This module will develop your understanding of theories of achievement motivation employed in sport psychology. You'll develop an understanding of the application of cognitive psychology in sport and you'll be given the opportunity to see how psychology can be applied to the enhancement of sporting performance.

This module allows you to reflect on the work-based experience and apply theory to practice. You will create a career plan based on your aspirations and transferable skills gained in the industry. This module aims to create a professional portfolio of evidence.

This module will develop your knowledge and understanding of posture and injury in a sporting context. You will develop practical skills to assess posture and flexibility and investigate the link between alignment, posture and the role of flexibility within sports.

This module will provide you with the knowledge to monitor training and competition demands in sport (team and individual settings). It'll blend the theory and applied nature of Elite sport, you'll be able to implement training/competition load monitoring and interpret the data appropriately, whilst also developing an understanding of environmental considerations and how these might influence training and competition loads and the monitoring and training prescription processes.

This learning module will provide you with the understanding of the practical application of selective movement analysis techniques in a strength and conditioning context. You'll learn the theory relevant to biomechanical instrumentation critically review the use of techniques in strength & conditioning practice.

This module aims to develop your ability to identify suitable exercise referral programmes for the treatment of several conditions and diseases. You will have the ability to translate the scientific literature into safe, effective and enjoyable exercise programmes.
