University Centre Wigan & Leigh College

UK partner institution

As the lead FE partner in the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT), the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College is working with prominent national and global employers, to deliver the very best higher technical education and qualifications.

We offer more than 30 courses and career pathways with foundation degrees, Higher National Certificates, Higher National Diplomas, Top-up degrees and professional and post-graduate courses, as well as higher and degree apprenticeships. University Centre expertise is in Business, Professional, Teacher Education, Creative Arts and New Media, Construction and Engineering, Health and Social Care and Sport.

Courses are structured to maximise your development, provide the knowledge you need to progress to further study, or secure a job in the industry you choose. Many include work placements, so you will gain real-life industry experience and have a CV to be proud of when you graduate.

Degrees, foundation degrees and teaching qualifications are awarded by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and Higher National Certificates and Diplomas in partnership with Pearson Edexcel.

Our programmes develop qualities sought in industry, from employability and problem-solving skills to communication and team working. We pride ourselves on providing quality learning opportunities to equip the workforce of the future with the skills, knowledge and opportunities to establish a successful career in their chosen profession

In 2019 the University Centre was awarded Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) accreditation recognising high quality internationally respected undergraduate degrees in Engineering subjects.

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the BEng (Hons) Mechanical and Manufacturing, was accredited by IET on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

The University Centre is the ideal destination for those who want to take up higher level study, but prefer to live at home within easy travelling distance of their university. Joining the University Centre also means saving on expensive accommodation costs with the added benefit of smaller classes and more lecturer contact time than offered by larger institutions.

We offer full and part-time study options with flexible delivery particularly aimed at those studying degree apprenticeships or around other work commitments.

With millions of pounds invested in new facilities, resources and equipment, we offer degree study on your doorstep with lower tuition fees than many other UK universities
