The Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership (CVCL) ran a fundraiser this year to support students and local families who were experiencing cost of living challenges.
Items such as non-perishable food items, household products and toiletries were donated by UCLan staff.
Collection points were set up, across Preston, Burnley and Westlakes campuses. This allowed students and local families in need to pick up essentials in time for Christmas.
This event was supported by Samaritans Burnley, Community Grocery and Burnley Together.
"The cost of food is increasing so much. I find myself broke a lot of the time, so I’m very grateful for this. Thank you."
— Samira, School of Health, Social Work and Sport
Number of donations - Preston Campus
Eighty eight students received donations at the Preston Campus.
"I live locally and I always have to consider what I’m spending. Things are so expensive. Normally I would have had to spend £20 on what I’ve been able to collect today, so thank you."
— Martin, School of Engineering and Computing
Number of donations - Burnley Campus
Thirty six students received donations at the Burnley Campus.
"I have a family and we don’t qualify for benefits. We earn just above the threshold to qualify. Things are really hard at the moment and we are struggling."
— Sally, School of Medicine and Dentistry
