CVCL community newsletter August 2023

Welcome to the first edition of CVCL's (Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership) community newsletter. This newsletter will provide bi-monthly updates on all things CVCL. It is created for our community partners.

Who we are

But first, a little introduction to CVCL for our new partners...

CVCL are achieved investors in the volunteers quality standard. We believe that sharing knowledge through volunteerism is key to creating graduates as rounded, socially responsible individuals. Who will continue to make positive impacts on society throughout their lives.

Currently, we work with over 300 community organisations both nationally and internationally. Every year, we support hundreds of students to gain valuable volunteering experience. This improves their life skills and enhances their employment prospects.

How to work with us

Any organisation can register their volunteering vacancies on our online volunteering portal.

We have over 900 UCLan students registered on the portal. Many of these have an interest in pursuing regular volunteering opportunities.

We also work in partnership with community organisations to develop or support short-term projects that our students can get involved in.

If your organisation has a project or event that would benefit from the support of students then please contact us.

Professional accredited qualifications

CVCL offer a range of vocational courses. These are designed to support the growth and development of organisations who are leaders in the community.

We offer heavily discounted Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) courses in:

  • Level 3 ILM Award in Management of Volunteers
  • Level 3 ILM Award in Effective Mentoring
  • Level 5 ILM Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring
  • Level 7 ILM Award in Leadership and Management
  • Level 7 ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management

DBS checks

We understand that not all organisations are a registered body for DBS. At CVCL, we can undertake DBS checks for UCLan students on an organisations behalf. Please contact us if you require this support. Unfortunately, we cannot offer DBS checks for non UCLan students.

Community Action Forum

CVCL has developed relationships with many community organisations across the Lancashire area.

We host events throughout the year to maintain strong community links, as part of our Community Action Forum. This is delivered in partnership with the Comensus team, Public Engagement team and our community networks.

The events run three times a year and they offer an informal space for our colleagues, members of the public and community organisations to:

  • Network
  • Improve community engagement within and beyond our university
  • Consider and promote reciprocal benefits for all
  • Work together on research, teaching, learning and problem solving
  • Celebrate amazing achievements
