Nyari Dzirambe-Chaparadza is a PhD student here at the University of Central Lancashire.
Meet Nyari
Nyari started her UCLan journey in 2014 on a Foundation Degree. This led to the BA (Hons) Social Work course and she qualified as a social worker in 2018, which coincided with the news she was expecting her third child. Whilst on maternity leave, she started studying an MA in Social Pedagogy Leadership. During which she had postnatal depression. She had plenty of support from course leaders Ali Gardner and Lowis Charfe (School of Social Work).
“There were times I felt like giving up whilst writing my dissertation, and I remember receiving an email from Lowis checking in how I was doing and if I needed any support; for me that was enough to encourage me to continue.
I am now doing a research degree and I’m a member of Global Race Centre for Equality (GRACE). As a person from BAME background being part of GRACE I have a sense of belonging and identity. I wanted to share my learning journey, particularly to empower women and girls into that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, you can be anything you want to be.
My family have always believed in my potential even when I don’t see it myself at times. My husband is the one who encouraged me to enrol onto the foundation degree, 10 years later I am doing a PhD.”
