Claire Bloor
Claire is a registered veterinary nurse (RVN) with a keen interest in all aspects of animal health and welfare. She has a particular interest in small animal dentistry, emergency and critical care, surgery, diagnostic imaging and clinical/practical skills. Claire brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of the veterinary education sector to her role and teaches predominantly on the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) course, whilst supporting student attainment across all courses within the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Claire teaches predominantly on the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) course but supports student attainment across all courses including the Foundation BVMS, Foundation Bioveterinary Science and BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science courses.
As a registered veterinary nurse (RVN), Claire has a keen interest in all aspects of animal health and welfare, with a particular interest in small animal dentistry, emergency and critical care, surgery, diagnostic imaging and clinical/practical skills. She uses this interest, knowledge, expertise and her experiences from clinical practice to support the creation and delivery of engaging and stimulating sessions, and help BVMS students to develop the day one skills and competences required of veterinary surgeons in general practice. Claire has extensive experience of designing, developing, implementing and quality assuring veterinary clinical, practical and theoretical assessments, which are critical to the development of confident, capable and resilient day one graduates from our BVMS course.
Claire brings a wealth of knowledge and experience relating to curriculum planning, quality assurance, professional accreditation and the education, training and experience of student veterinary professionals within higher education to her role. Key focuses of Claire’s role within the School of Veterinary Medicine will be assessment design and quality assurance, student attainment and developing inter-professionalism within vet-led teams; she will embark upon a PhD which focuses on many of these topics as part of the School’s commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-informed enhancement of the novel veterinary curriculum.
Claire undertook a BSc (Hons) degree in veterinary nursing, graduating in 2003. During her studies, she developed a specific interest in dentistry as she worked alongside a specialist dental, oral and maxillofacial referral veterinary surgeon, and completed a veterinary nurse certificate in the subject in 2004. Since 2006, Claire has written numerous articles related to aspects of veterinary dentistry, has delivered workshops and lectures at various congresses in the UK and EU, has developed courses and webinars for various CPD companies, and has developed advanced veterinary nursing dentistry qualifications.
Alongside part-time work in clinical practice and dental referral, Claire has worked full-time in veterinary education since 2005 and was Head of Veterinary Nursing at a large land-based College in the Northwest of England. Claire holds two teaching qualifications, a Masters in Education (by Research) qualification, and an Internal Quality Assurance qualification, and will be applying for recognition from the Higher Education Academy.
