Athena Swan

Values and initiatives

In 2020, the University was awarded the Athena Swan Bronze award in recognition of our commitment to eliminating gender bias across our campuses.

The Athena SWAN Bronze award recognises the efforts of Higher Education organisations to create an inclusive work culture for men and women in academic, professional and support roles. It also looks to provide equal opportunities for study, promotion and career development, including trans staff and students.

The University has been a member of the Athena SWAN Charter since 2005. We were awarded an Institutional Bronze award in 2014 and 2020. The award recognises our commitment to adopt the Charter’s ten principles in our policies, practices and culture.

We have taken important steps to increase our commitment to gender equality, which is recognised by this award.
