Sport Business Management

This module aims to provide you with an insight into the different sport-related disciplines. It aims to broaden understanding of sport and physical activity from the perspectives of performance and health as well as considering structure and delivery from the group and individual participation.

This module aims to help you develop the necessary skills enabling study at the appropriate academic level. It will also encourage you to reflect on and learn from your experiences and support professional and personal development. 

On this module you'll be given a broad knowledge on the main economic, financial concepts and analytical tools used to base management decisions. You'll source and collate relevant economic data related to operational and strategic decision-making within the sports industry.

This module will develop the academic and employability skills that will underpin your development throughout your degree and your transition into sport and wider business workplace. You will be enabled to develop a reflective approach that will build your self-awareness and facilitate your engagement with continuous development within sport management.

The aim of this module is to examine the objectives and conduct of sport suppliers and consumers, across different sectors and in various markets. This will lead to your understanding of the theory, practices and techniques of effective customer service management in the context of the sports business environment.

On this module you'll consider the key theories and perspectives on sport business operations within related services, facilities and events. You'll apply theories, concepts and practical techniques in different sports contexts. You'll also develop an understanding of hosting events, using practical skills to plan, deliver and evaluate an event.

This module focuses on the nature of quantitative and qualitative research methods and a variety of research data gathering tools. You will develop skills associated with gathering and managing data through relevant tools, reporting research findings and developing a critical awareness of research limitations. You will also assess key concepts linked to entrepreneurial capabilities, including effective communication of information

This module aims to develop contemporary marketing knowledge, skills and experiences in a range of sporting contexts and environments. You will develop the ability to identify, problem solve and deploy a range of sports marketing theories and practices in this rapidly developing area.

The module aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the application of Human Resource Management processes and theories to sport organisations. The content and delivery of the module encourages critical evaluation of the management of human resources within sport, both in the UK and globally, at societal, organisational and individual level and from the differing perspectives of members of the employment relationship.

You will study sports tourism as a global and emerging field. The module focuses on significant issues influencing growth and impact on host communities, as well as within rural and urban contexts. You will critically examine the sociological and motivational characteristics of those who pursue it. The module shows the opportunities and limitations presented by sports phenomena.

You'll have the opportunity to investigate a range of political, social and economic factors that underpin international aid and development through sport in a global context. You will look at how both national and international development agencies impact and limit sport for development.

You will explore the theory and practice of corporate strategy in sports organisations both in the UK and internationally. You will develop the analytical skills to discuss good practice, as well as explain how firms use strategies to deal with global and domestic issues.

The module will revisit and develop the concepts and theories of self-development and reflection introduced at level 4. It will enable you to critically evaluate these key theories, concepts and techniques and use them to critically evaluate their own self-development throughout the degree. It will also enable you to further prepare themselves for your transition into the sport and wider business workplace.

Do you want to start your own business venture? This module will encourage you to think conceptually and critically about the role of the individual in developing enterprise and new venture creation through individual self-reflection and analysis of various entrepreneurs.

You will study operational, sociological, and philosophical issues in contemporary sports. You will examine relevant concepts to encourage critical thinking skills. The module will challenge your view on issues from different perspectives and contexts.
