As a UK student on this programme, you'll be eligible for a £5,000 NHS Learning Support Fund. This doesn't have to be paid back after finishing your degree.

Campus-based undergraduate degree

Our BSc (Hons) Nursing with Registered Nurse courses are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a confident and capable nurse. Based at our Preston, Westlakes & Burnley campus, these traditional route courses blend academic learning with hands-on practice through clinical placements across Lancashire.

We offer courses within four fields of nursing:

You'll spend block periods of time split between campus-based learning and practical training, gaining real-world experience to prepare you for a career in nursing.

For clinical placement experiences, you’ll be allocated to one of several NHS Trusts within the Central Lancashire region as your base. From there, you'll gain experience in a range of placement areas. Students at Burnley Campus will have all their placements within the East circuit (Blackburn/Burnley area). Those at the Westlakes Campus will have placements within the Westlakes area.

Access to simulation labs with various manikins allowed us to practice interventions and procedures before starting placement, boosting our confidence and competence in areas we hadn’t experienced before to feel more prepared for real-world scenarios.

Practice-based pathway

Our Practice-Based Pathway, delivered by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in collaboration with our university, offers a truly unique hybrid model of professional development. Unlike traditional programmes that separate theory and practice into distinct blocks, this pathway integrates both from the very start, blending academic learning with hands-on clinical experience throughout the entire course.

This pathway has a delivery mode that involves set weekly placement days alongside theory learning. The theory learning will take place through a combination of in-person delivery at our bespoke learning centre based at Preston College and remote learning through virtual platforms.

Your placement time will be spent at health care providers within one NHS Trust, from the list below:

Return to study programme

If you don't have formal Level 3 qualifications, such as A Levels or BTECs, or are considering returning to education after a long time, our free Return to Study Programme could provide you the access to studying your dream degree.

The programme is delivered online and part-time over 6 weeks. Successful completion of the programme could lead directly onto our Adult Nursing programme (subject to successful interview). The course may also qualify you to study a course with an integrated foundation year. You must complete the Return to Study programme and meet the DBS and occupational health requirements to proceed.
