Clive Archer is an Honorary Professor at the University of Central Lancashire School of Medicine, and is a senior Consultant Dermatologist at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (2010-) and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London (KCL). Previously, he was Consultant Dermatologist and Clinical Lead for Dermatology at the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol (1989-2010).

Clive is a highly qualified and very experienced Consultant Dermatologist, with an extensive track record of over 200 publications, including 5 books. Clive's research interests include the immuno-pharmacological aspects of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis (M.D.), the interaction between inflammatory mediators and cytokines (Ph.D.) and the epidemiology of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer.

Clive trained for his undergraduate studies at Guy’s Hospital Medical School, University of London and Keble College, Oxford University. He trained in general Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, and University College Hospital, London. He specialised in dermatology at Guy’s Hospital and the St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin / Postgraduate Institute of Dermatology, University of London, and the Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, Oregon, USA.

Clive's Special interests include: Dermatological Medicine and Surgery, including General Dermatology in Adults and Children; Acne (including Roaccutane treatment), Eczema, Contact Dermatitis, Hair Loss, Nail Diseases, Psoriasis, Urticaria (Hives); Skin Cancer Assessment, Benign Lesions (e.g. Moles, Seborrhoeic and Viral Warts, Solar Keratoses) and Skin Cancers (e.g. Melanoma and Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer).

National Roles

Clive is Past Academic Vice President of the British Association of Dermatologists and Past President of the Royal Society of Medicine Section of Dermatology. As an MRCP Examiner, he was also Chair of the Royal College of Physicians Joint Specialty Committee for Dermatology, and is a Member of the British Society of Dermatological Surgery and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

As a registrar then senior registrar in Dermatology, Dr Archer received recognition for his original research by being awarded Silver, Gold and Silver Awards at the American Academy of Dermatology annual meetings (Residents’ Section, Original Investigation), for 3 consecutive years

Paul currently holds a number of positions in the dental policy arena including dental Chair at the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Fellowship Chief Facilitator for the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) and dental lead for the National Association for Primary Care. He is a member of the Independent Expert Advisory Group on oral health policy development in the Department of Health, Ireland.

Paul qualified from Liverpool working in a number of primary dental care posts prior to taking up the post of lecturer at the London Hospital. He them moved to King’s College and onto UCL. He currently holds an honorary Chair in the Faculty of medicine at UCLan, and honorary Senior Lecturer post at UCL and is the Dental lead for the National Association for Primary Care. He holds the post of Chief Assessor for Fellowship of the FGDP(UK) as well as examiner for the Overseas Registration Examination of the General Dental Council. He is a past President of the British Association for the Study of Community Dental Health and held the post of Vice Dean of the Faculty of General Dental Practice twice. In addition to acting as an advisor to the British Dental Association he is currently working with the Department of Health in Ireland on their oral health policy, has sat on a number of NICE Committees and acted as Advisor to the House of Commons Health Committee on their last dental inquiry. He has worked for a number of other international and national agencies as well as being a member of the European Health Policy Group. He is also a co-author of the undergraduate textbook Essential Dental Public Health and sits on a number of editorial boards.

Mike is a senior clinical leader having worked in the NHS and education for over 40 years. He is primarily interested in the strategy within NHS and social care and how innovation in technology will change the face of services in the near future. His interests include how technology will impact on workforce and training of future clinicians in the UK. He is a former Chair of Assessment at the RCGP and National Deputy Medical Director.

As an Honorary Professor, Mike is the author and curator of the MSc Digital Health in our School of Medicine. Mike is a well established clinical leader with a national reputation in commissioning and education. He has worked as an oncologist, GP and educator. As Chair of the RCGP Assessment committee he oversaw the significant change in assessment of GPs for the MRCGP examination. At NHS England he was the responsible officer for the role out of revalidation in 2013-15. He has an interest in workforce, training and strategic change in the NHS. He also has an interest in NHS system governance and has carried out reviews ranging from excess mortality in cardiac surgery to board governance in NHS Trusts.

Professor Canelo is a Hepatobiliary and General Surgeon. A graduate from the University of Cordaba in 1980, he trained in general surgery, HPB and transplant surgery in France and in Germany working at the University of Hannover Medical School as well as at the Georg-August University in Goettingen Germany as Academic Surgeon. His MD was undertaken in Germany on: Assessment of graft function in liver transplantation through the intraoperative measure of bile acids.

He has been dedicated to laboratory research as well as clinical research throughout his career. As well as multiple original publications in international journals and books, he held a Honorary Professorship at the Catholic University of Cordoba, Argentina.

He has previously worked as HPB Consultant and Academic at Imperial College London, in renal and pancreas transplantation as well as in the HPB Department as an HPB Surgeon.

Professor Canelo holds Fellowships Nomination, including the FRCS, FACS, FEBS, FICS. He is Member of National as well as International Societies in Surgery and Transplantation. Since 2014 he has worked as a Consultant in HPB/UGI & General Surgery at the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, where he is the Founder of the Academic Surgical Unit and Academic Director of Surgery.

The Academic Surgical Unit offers medical professionals courses, academic support, training, and networking opportunities across the UK.

His main points interest are related to HPB malignancies, pancreatitis and safety in surgery.

Professor Canelo, has publications on Covid 19 as well as a clinical research project in Covid 19 infection in the abdominal cavity and impact of Covid 19 infection in cancer.

Dr Cooper-Moss is a GPST3 doctor working in Rossendale, Lancashire. She was recently awarded an Academic Clinical Fellowship with East Lancashire CCG. She looks forward to strengthening the ongoing relationship between UCLan and the local partner trusts.

She has performed a supervisory role for 4th year medical students in General Practice and is looking forward to getting more involved with undergraduate teaching in the future.

Dr Cooper-Moss graduated from Keele University in 2013, where she completed an intercalated MPhil degree. She commenced her GP training in the East Lancashire area in 2015 and was awarded an Academic Clinical Fellowship in October 2018. Her research interests include cancer, mental health, health inequalities and medical education. She is currently undertaking quality improvement work with the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance, and is a Principle Investigator for portfolio studies in General Practice.

Dr Iain Crossingham trained in respiratory and intensive care medicine in Nottingham and Manchester before being appointed as a consultant in East Lancashire in 2011. His clinical interests include mechanical ventilation, sleep medicine and airways disease. His research focusses on evaluation of respiratory treatments through systematic review and meta analysis.

He is an associate editor of the Journal of the Intensive Care Society.

Professor Sam Dearman MB ChB MPhil MRCPsych FAcadMEd

Professor Dearman is Honorary Clinical Professor of Psychiatry with the UCLan School of Medicine and Director of Medical Education for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust as well as Deputy Medical Director and Responsible Officer. He is Cumbria’s first Professor of Psychiatry and Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators. After obtaining his MB CHB at the University of Manchester, he completed his specialist training in psychiatry through the NHS England North West Scheme. He works in Cumbria as a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult services.

Professor Dearman is a keen educator and works as a trainer for postgraduate trainees and as a frequent teacher and lecturer for medical students. Within the School of Medicine he has used his interest in curriculum design and methods of teaching and learning to development the mental health curricula for medical students and Physician Associates. This has also included the production of engaging teaching sessions and expert half days, particularly in his areas of interest such as psychopathology and clinical examination as well as the medical professionalism and its assessment.

Sam graduated through the University of Manchester Medical School undertaking higher training in psychiatry across the North West. Whilst in training to become a consultant he developed an interest in medical education, undertaking his PG Cert during this time and writing his first book on postgraduate training. As he started working in the NHS as a consultant he also become the first clinical director for education in Cumbria, latterly becoming the first Director of Medical Education in Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, improving the training profile of Cumbria with increasing training post numbers and nationally competitive results. Since that time, and as the NHS moved towards integrated care systems, Sam has led the delivery of one of the first integrated medical education teams in the UK, and is the only Psychiatrist to work as a Director of Medical Education in an Acute Trust and integrated Care Trust. Having also become Cumbria's Deputy Medical Director, he also acted up as Medical Director in NCIC NHS Foundation Trust during the first Covid19 wave, again the only psychiatrist to have done so outside of a mental health trust.

Sam maintains a keen interest in teaching and lecturing in the fields of psychopathology and patient assessment as well as medical professional and regulation. Sam's research interest reflects teaching interest publishing in areas of teaching and learning and educational governance.

Professor Romesh Gupta OBE is a retired Consultant Physician from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. He is an Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire and is also the Chairman for the National Forum for Health and Wellbeing, as well as the Director of the NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group.

Professor Gupta's special interests include the development of healthcare professionals via mentoring and coaching; analysing the effects of Government policies on the patient experience and morale of NHS staff; promoting equality and diversity; and addressing health inequalities.

He also has a great interest in engaging the public to improve health literacy through regular workshops, lecture and Health Melas held at UCLan, and promoting research and developing professional skills of the students from health facilities.

With his wealth of experience and knowledge, Professor Gupta represents doctors in professional organisations, and maintains standards via being examiner and taking part in the regulation organisations including fitness to practise of the General Medical Council. He also regularly teaches and trains staff through regular master classes and seminars.

Honorary Clinical Professor

Appointed as an Honorary Clinical Professor in the School of Medicine in June 2018 to support the ongoing development of the undergraduate curriculum, enhance research in Primary care development and help increase the range of postgraduate qualifications that are available to clinicians and managers working in Primary Care.

James is the senior partner in general practice in Merseyside. He qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1984, completed his junior hospital training in Liverpool and joined his practice in Wallasey in 1989. He continues to practice part time.

A General Practitioner of considerable experience and talent who throughout his career has consistently been elected by his peers into leadership positions, both locally and nationally. Unique as a practicing clinician who is also a broadcaster, writer, presenter, speaker and educator. Featured in Who's Who since 2012 and appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2012 Queen’s Diamond Jubilee New Year Honours List for services to Medicine and to Healthcare.

A skilled clinician and manager of change he has been at the forefront of NHS reform for over 25 years.

James is the Senior Partner in a nationally renowned, award winning General Practice in the North West of England. He has a wealth of experience in primary care, medical education and medical politics.

He is President of the National Association of Primary Care (UK) having previously served as Chairman from 2004-08 and is the co-author and national clinical lead of the new care model for the NHS, the Primary Care Home, possibly the largest reform programme for primary care provision in a generation.

He is a founding director of Waring health Ltd, an international specialist medical consultancy firm. In his international roles he is the primary care lead for the Faculty of Disaster Medicine for India and Nepal.

He was a GP trainer for 20 years and an undergraduate tutor for the medical schools of Liverpool and University College London.

In June 2018 James was appointed as an honorary clinical professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire.

He served as a government advisor at the Department of Health from 1999 -2002 and from 2009 – 2013 and was the National Clinical Lead for the English Department of Health’s implementation programmes for Clinical Commissioning,

In this role he was also the Primary Care Lead on the DH Board of the National Clinical Directors.

He has also held advisory positions with NICE, CQC and NHS Improvement.

James is a Non-Executive Director of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Teaching Hospitals and immediate past NED at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust where he was the Senior Independent Director.

He is immediate past Chairman of the largest independent community pharmacy chain with national coverage in England,

Currently the longest serving BBC radio doctor, he remains the resident doctor for BBC Radio Merseyside. He regularly provides expert advice on national television and radio for both news and current affairs programmes.

His inspiring presentation skills have established him as an internationally renowned motivational speaker.

Dr Krige graduated at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa in 1994. He underwent specialist training in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine on the North West Rotation in the UK from 1998 to 2005. Dr Krige was appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine for East Lancashire NHS Trust based at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital in 2005.

He is the clinical lead for all Enhanced Recovery (ER) Programs in East Lancashire, which he originally introduced in 2008 and has been an early adopter an proponent of many QI initiatives both perioperatively and hospital wide.

Dr Krige is an active researcher (previous NIHR Grant holder) mainly in the area of perioperative care. He regularly lectures on Enhanced Recovery and analgesia for abdominal surgery at regional, national & international meetings. In additional to his research management roles listed above he was previously lead for the Cumbria & Lancashire NIHR CRN Critical Care Speciality Group. He is a board member of the UCLan Clinical Trials Unit and a previous board member of the UK Perioperative Medicine Clinical Trials Network. He is a member of the advisory group to the RCA Perioperative Medicine programme.

Personal interests include first & foremost a family man with 3 young children and in any remaining time a follower of SA cricket & rugby teams, a lover of red wine and reading, occasional golf and a lifelong endurance athlete (over 30 years) including competitive triathlon & more recently elite obstacle course racing.

Dr Lipworth is a consultant physician with over 30 years experience in Clinical Allergy and Pulmonology with an h index of 87 and 670 publications. He is presently head of the Scottish Centre of Respiratory Research and Clinical Professor of Allergy and Pulmonology at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee. He was previously visiting Professor at Harvard University Medical School and University of Florida, as well as Honorary Clinical Professor at University of St Andrews Medical School. He has been honoured for research excellence by the British Pharmacological Society, Scottish Thoracic Society, American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and European Respiratory Society.

Johann has worked across government, professional, commercial, public sector and international organisations and developed an international reputation as a thought leader in Digital Technology, Healthcare Education and Training, Commercialisation and Leadership. Having been trained as a medical doctor and obstetrician, Johann worked in the NHS for over a decade, undertaking several leadership roles across medicine, then working across industry, government and technology.

Johann Malawana is the Founder and Director of the Healthcare Leadership Academy, this is a social enterprise that is training the next generation of leaders in Healthcare on how to have the greatest impact on leading and delivering healthcare services for the benefit of society. Johann is the Lead for Education and Training for Healthcare UK at The Department of International Trade. In 2016 Johann founded Medics.Academy, a digital education technology company that has been awarded many prestigious awards and has delivered projects for organisations including NHS England, NHS Organisations and the World Health Organisation. Medics.Academy has been thinking about how health education will be delivered over the next generation and finding scalable solutions using Technology to facilitate impactful change.

Johann is a former chair of the Junior Doctors Committee of the British Medical Association, a member of the board of Directors of the General Medical Council, a member of the board of Directors of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board and a council member of the British Medical Association. Johann previously negotiated several areas of work on behalf of the BMA with government and professional partners. Johann also oversaw the development of the 2016 Junior Doctors Contract, a contract worth over £35billion for the lifetime of the agreement.

As a result of all this, Johann developed a strong representative and leadership reputation. Johann served as an advisor on several reviews of the medical education environment in his career. Johann is passionate about how we educate healthcare professionals to deliver health services societies need. Johann's academic work focusses on Technology Enhanced Learning and how we can use technology to solve health education problems in all healthcare economies and environments.

Pierre is a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. He is the Director of Research at the Trust. He has an interest in health services research, translational research and evidence based practice. He advises on several national cervical screening committees and he has mentored several clinical and non clinical MD and PhDs over the last 15 years.

Pierre has published extensively in gynaecological oncology and cervical screening. He has over 170 publications. His current H index is 61 with over 16,000 citations 2021. His research includes:

Pierre was the president of the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology from 2018-2021 and remains a Trustee for the society. He is a scientific editor for the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and he is involved in developing new technologies for cancer screening.

Cathie entered the midwifery profession as a ‘direct entry’ student at Guy’s & St Thomas’ (London), and qualified as a Registered Midwife in 1995.

She has a BA (Hons) degree in Midwifery from Liverpool John Moores University, and a Master’s degree in Health Research from Lancaster University (2002).

Cathie has worked at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust for many years, as a Midwife, Infant Feeding Co-ordinator, Midwifery Research Co-ordinator, Women & Children’s Health Research Team Leader, and, since March 2019, as the Trust’s Clinical Research Development Lead.

Also in 2019, she was awarded a place on the 70@70: NIHR Senior Nurse and Midwife Research Leader Programme.

Cathie is a member of the North West Clinical Midwives Research Group, chaired by Professor Soo Downe.

She has held the positions of Reproductive Health & Childbirth (RHC) Specialty Co-convenor/Lead for Cumbria & Lancashire/Greater Manchester Clinical Research Networks (2008-2016), and Patient, Carer & Public Involvement & Engagement Lead for the National RHC Specialty.

Cathie is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) award collaborator – Self-hypnosis for intrapartum pain (SHIP) trial (2009), and Antenatal care after a previous pregnancy or neonatal loss study (2017).

She is keen to facilitate research collaborations between NHS and university colleagues, and patients, carers and the public, that seek to address the local needs and priorities of health and social care service users and providers, utilising, where possible, the NIHR’s integrated health research system.

Paul has an interest in General Practice, Primary Care Development and Medical Education with a particular interest in Medical Education in Primary Care.

Paul has been involved and lead the development of postgraduate medical courses at UCLan and as Curriculum Lead led the initial development of the medical school. Nationally and internationally He has been involved with the development of the Royal College of General Practitioners MRCGP exam as an examiner for many years. Paul has a research interest in social models of learning and their application in Primary Care. He has published papers related to these developments and interests.

Paul has been a GP for 34 years having worked as a GP partner and GP obstetrician on the Isle of Man, a partner in a small GP teaching practice in County Durham, and as a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Primary Care in East Lancashire. He is a past chair of the North of England RCGP Faculty and a MRCGP examiner and has been a member of the Applied Knowledge Test group for 24 years.

He has spoken at many conferences in relation to learning in primary care. Since retirement he provides support for colleagues at the medical school. Paul is a Fellow of Royal College of General Practitioners.

Robin qualified in medicine at the University of Glasgow in 1980. He underwent surgical training in Glasgow, London, Manchester & Stuttgart. He was appointed a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon in Blackburn (now part of East Lancashire NHS trust) in 1991. His specialist interest is in paediatric orthopaedics, and he is an international expert in the screening of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), a potentially crippling condition in children. In 2011, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Lancaster, his thesis subject being on the subject of ‘Clinical and Sonographic Screening in DDH’. Currently, he has 72 pubmed entries, an h index of 23 and over 1300 citations. He is a peer reviewer for many national and international journals. In 2016 he was awarded the King James IV Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in recognition of his internationally recognised surgical research. Other awards include the John Sharrard memorial medal in 2012 (British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery) and in 2021 the Sir Walter Mercer medal (British Orthopaedic Association)

He is very involved in medical education, and he is an elected council member for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2016-26). He has twice been voted the ‘Orthopaedic Trainer of the year’ in the Northwest of England (as voted by Orthopaedic Specialist Registrars). Internationally, he is a regular examiner and lead examiner for the JSF FRCS (T & O) examination in Hong Kong and Singapore. In 2019, he was an external examiner for the medical student surgical finals exam at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Robin was part of the team that initially developed the UCLan Medical School in 2013 and in 2019 developed and was convenor of a course on ‘DDH from childhood to adult’ at the UCLan Medical School in Victoria Mill, Burnley. In 2014, he was the surgical secondary lead for the UCLan Musculoskeletal MSc course.

His track record and enthusiasm for research and education compliments the aims and future aspirations of the medical school at UCLan.

Dr Manu Shah is a Consultant Dermatologist in active dermatological practice for 25 years. He has specialist interests in skin cancer, contact dermatitis, male genital skin disease and medical education. Dr Shah runs a regional service for male genital skin problems. His MD thesis (doctorate) was on occupational metal allergy in Sheffield.

Dr Shah has published widely in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. He teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and lectures both nationally and internationally.

Dr Shah sits on the British Association of Dermatologists education sub-committee.

Honorary Senior Lecturer

Mr Shalom Srirangam is a Consultant Urologist at East Lancs Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) since 2009. He is a ‘product of the North West’ having completed his medical school training from University of Manchester in 1997. He undertook his basic surgical training in the North West of England (MRCS 2001). Following a period of urological research, he completed his specialist urology training in the North West of England (Manchester) rotation (FRCS Urol 2007).

He manages all aspects of common urological conditions but has a specialist interest in the treatment of kidney stone disease. He is the lead for research within the department and has been the principal investigator at ELHT for a number of NIHR multi-centre portfolio studies and has also undertaken smaller scale local research projects. He also has responsibility for the training and education of junior trainee doctors as well as medical students from UCLan, the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) and Lancaster University.

Collaboration with UCLan School of Medicine

I look forward to strengthening the links between UCLan and ELHT to build a platform which will allow greater research collaboration for urology research (also a national priority) and improved ability to attract research grants to facilitate this. An aspiration would be to jointly develop a urology clinical research post.

Additionally, a close working partnership will facilitate the development of competent, well qualified and motivated doctors delivering high quality patient care - an international ‘Northern’ centre of excellence for urology teaching at both under- and post-graduate level.

Professor Lee-Suan Teh was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist in 1996 at Blackburn Hospitals and is currently based at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust (ELHT). She was born in Penang, Malaysia and brought up in Sibu, Sarawak, in Borneo. After completing her “A” levels in Sibu, she undertook her undergraduate medical training at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, graduating with commendation in 1984. After house jobs in Aberdeen, she trained in General Medicine and Rheumatology in South Wales (Church Village, Rhondda Valley, Pontypridd and Cardiff) and passed her postgraduate MRCP UK examinations in 1987. After a successful grant award from Arthritis Research UK (now Versus Arthritis) a charitable organisation, she undertook a fulltime laboratory-based research project at the University of Wales, Cardiff Medical school and was awarded an MD degree for her research dissertation on “Neuropsychiatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus” in 1994. She was a senior trainee at Hope Hospital, Salford and Withington Hospital in Manchester just before taking up the consultant post in Blackburn.

Since becoming a consultant, Professor Teh has continued her interest in Lupus Research. In 1999, as chief investigator, she was awarded a research grant from the Research and Development NHS Executive to undertake work on the development and validation of a health-related quality of life measure for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

This work started in 2000 and is ongoing and is in collaboration with the psychologist at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Professor Teh was awarded two further research grants from Lupus UK in 2005 and Arthritis Research UK in 2010 to continue this research work. With the help of these grants and the collaboration of clinicians nationwide, the LupusQoL questionnaire was developed and validated. This questionnaire was copyrighted to both UCLan and ELHT in 2006 and is widely translated and used worldwide. She has published 13 scientific papers in peer review journals and three book chapters from this research work, the most recent publication in July 2021 and book chapter in August 2021 This work has been presented to scientific societies locally, nationally and internationally over the years. Professor Teh is an invited member of BILAG (British Isles Lupus Assessment Group) which comprises about 30 clinicians from around the UK who are interested in Lupus. This group meets tri-annually to discuss important clinical advances and serves as a steering committee for research priorities for Lupus patients. Professor Teh has participated in clinical trials in collaboration with these BILAG members and is co-author of another 24 papers in peer reviewed journals and numerous abstract presentations. As research lead in Rheumatology and principal investigator, she has participated in eight other research projects based at different UK Universities. In January 2021, as a result of her expertise in Lupus Outcome measures, she was invited to be a member of the Global OMERACT (Outcome Measures in Rheumatology) 2022 Working Group for Lupus. This working group consists of clinicians and scientists worldwide and aims to recommend core set domains of outcome measures to be assessed in future Lupus randomised controlled clinical trials and longitudinal studies.

Apart from research, Professor Teh enjoys teaching and is education lead in Rheumatology at Blackburn. She regularly teaches in-house postgraduate doctors of all grades as well as doctors undertaking the MSc in Rheumatology Connective Tissue Disease and vasculitis module based at the University of Manchester. She frequently teaches medical students from various universities (until recently University of Manchester and latterly UCLan and Lancaster University) and also physician associate students from UCLan. On a yearly basis, she organises and teaches in the IMT rheumatology Sector day when it is based at Blackburn. She is educational supervisor to six foundation year doctors yearly and clinical supervisor to three foundation year trainees and a general practitioner speciality trainee.

In her spare time, Professor Teh enjoys working out in the gym, watching Coronation Street, Sci-Fi and crime TV programmes and Strictly Come Dancing. She enjoys cooking Eastern and Western cuisine and before the pandemic, eating out with different groups of friends. She enjoys visiting the theatre and cinema, reading real paper books as well as listening to talking books when travelling by car. She is an armchair supporter of Manchester United football club. She also dotes on her four great nieces and nephews all under ten.

Professor Teh’s expertise in research and experience in teaching would serve her well in an advisory role. She would like to be in contact with the medical students to inspire them and remind them of the privilege of our calling, the fun in learning, the sense of achievement in overcoming challenges and the importance of questioning and original thinking. She would like to instil in them the sense of duty and responsibility we have to our patients and their relatives and remind them that a well-balanced lifestyle with non-medical pursuits is paramount to our maturity in striving to become compassionate and caring doctors.

Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer

Mr Younis is a consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. He is the Clinical Module Lead for Surgery and Anaesthesia for the MBBS programme at UCLan.

Mr Younis graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine (Cardiff) in 2002. He then completed his basic and higher surgical training in the Northwest. Having completed his fellowship training in Zurich, Nice, Paris and Montreal, he was appointed as a consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in hand and wrist surgery at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust in February 2013.

Mr Younis has an interest in both post-graduate and undergraduate education. He was the first ever recipient of the Excellence in Education Award, awarded by Health Education Northwest. He has overarching responsibility for the delivery of the surgical curriculum in phase 2 for the MBBS programme. Mr Younis also teaches on a number of courses and was recently appointed onto the faculty of the AO Trauma Foundation. The foundation is responsible for the provision of trauma education and trauma research throughout the world.

Bambos (short name for Charalambos) is an Honorary Professor at the School of Medicine and a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

He has a keen interest in Research as well as Teaching and Training. He uses various research methodologies to develop evidence that can be directly translated to clinical practice.

Bambos has published extensively in his areas of interest.

Along his clinical work as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics, Bambos has developed an extensive research portfolio, having led and completed multiple research studies, as well as collaborating in national multi-centre trials. In addition, Bambos has supervised numerous trainees in carrying out Research at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Bambos oversees the training of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, and has organised and delivered several orthopaedic courses for medical students and juniors doctors.
