A Semiotic Analysis of North Korean Postage Stamps, 1948-1980
This research uses North Korean postage stamps issued between 1948-1980 to examine how they portray state constructed national identity, domestic, and foreign policy. An understudied and underappreciated source material in academia, postage stamps offer a unique window into the socio-political, cultural, and economic history of a country. Utilising his own personal collection and years of specialist collecting experience, David's research critically examines these philatelic messages present in North Korean stamps.

We are keen to promote partnership; collaboration and employment opportunities for our students from day one.
Collaboration can take many forms – from co-developing the research a postgraduate student is undertaking for their PhD, to engaging a PhD student on a specific project that does not link directly to their PhD but uses their skills to address an issue.
