UCLan teams up with the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and Department for Business & Trade as part of extended Japan Day celebrations
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has partnered with the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and the Department for Business and Trade to host a free event exploring UK and Japan trade relations.
Organised by the University’s Japanese department along with its partners and taking place on the University’s Preston Campus on Friday 23 February, guests will hear from the representative from the Japanese Embassy and the Director General of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organisation).
Representatives from North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and the Department for Business and Trade will also be in attendance, along with some of UCLan’s lecturers and Preston Mayor Councillor Yakub Patel.

Event organiser and Senior Lecturer in Japanese at UCLan Takako Amano said: “Japan is currently the third largest economy in the world and has a free trade agreement with the UK, so this is an exciting time for businesses in the North West to explore new opportunities.
“This is the very first time this scale of corporate event in relation to Japan is happening in this region. We are really keen to promote UK-Japan relationship at any levels. With fantastic guests who represent Japanese economy, it will certainly be a great event for businesses who have been considering of expanding their businesses in the Far East.”
The panel of key industry guests will be available to answer any questions people may have regarding business during a question and answer session.

The Japan day event is reaching the milestone of its 10th anniversary and thanks to our contact with Takako Amano we are looking forward to adding a new dimension of international trade to the already well respected cultural event.

The event, on Friday 23 February, will be held in Foster Building from 10.00am to 3.00pm, with a networking lunch provided at 12noon.

It is the first time UCLan has hosted a business-specific element to its annual Japan Day celebrations, which promotes Japanese studies and culture at the University and marks its 10th anniversary in 2024.
