Lecturer in Architecture

As a direct consequence of our continuing development, the Grenfell-Baines Institute of Architecture is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Architecture with abilities and experience suitable for the delivery of studio based architectural design and architectural humanities.

In 2021, the both of our Part 1 and Part 2 course completed a highly successful RIBA validation event, which secured validation until 2026. Our Institute of Architecture has also been consistent in achieving exceptional student satisfaction over the past few years. The role will build upon these successes, and help us deliver upon our aspiration to become an internationally significant Institute of Architecture.

We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious team member with experience in architectural education and practice. Applicants should be exceptional, design-oriented teachers, able to contribute to contemporary debate and discourse within the field of architecture and the built environment. They should be strong visual communicators; able to represent not only architecture but also research, analysis, history and theory though a range of media.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide high quality teaching within the remit of the jointly held criteria for parts 1 and parts 2 of the architecture qualification, and will be responsible for coordinating and managing module delivery across design and the humanities. The ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Architectural studies and skill in adapting to work with students in lecturing, seminar and workshop situations is essential.

The Institute leads multidisciplinary networks on research and learning in multiple areas. Applicants should be able to present and communicate their own research interests and demonstrate how they will inform and encourage experimentation in student work and build upon the existing research strengths of the institute; a commitment to sustainability, ethical practice and widening participation in the profession being core themes.

The successful applicant must hold a good first and second degree (Part 1 and 2 RIBA/ARB) in architecture from a recognised institution A PhD in a relevant discipline and/or significant and relevant industrial experience/esteem is also desirable.

All members of academic staff are required to share a range of administrative duties, including student recruitment activities and also contribute to overseas delivery of our programmes in places such as Hong Kong and Egypt.
