Japan Day is back on Friday 7 February 2025. Join us for this celebration of Japanese culture where you can shop, watch shows or learn a new skill.
The event is going to be opened by a special guest from the Japanese Embassy, after the opening performance.
There will be stalls where you can learn about hidden gems of Japan. This includes job opportunities, cultural stalls, a flea market, food tasting and more. There will also be a Japanese fashion runway, which you can watch or take part in.
Throughout the day, you can see cultural performances. This includes martial arts, magna, J-Pop dance, Japanese Sign Language and more. There will also be powerful Taiko Drumming performances. You can take part in Taiko Drumming workshops by the Kaminari Taiko Group (booking is necessary).
You can also take part in workshops, including:
- Beginners Japanese
- Sa-do: tea ceremony
- Sho-do: calligraphy
- Samurai Warrior helmet making in Origami
- Furoshiki eco wrapping
At the end of the day, Japanese Sake tasting is planned.
Some of the sessions are BSL interpreted.
Due to growing demand, we can only accommodate a limited number of people. Please book tickets for 10:45am entry or 3pm entry. You are welcome to stay all day, but please book both morning and afternoon tickets. The University's canteen and cafe will also be open.
