This event will be part of series of dementia public events at UCLan.
On behalf of UCLan’s Alzheimer’s Academic Group, we would like to invite you to our fourth Dementia public event that will be taking place on Wednesday 4 December 6-9pm in Harrington Lecture Theatre (refreshments provided).
The topic of discussion this time will be centred around contact sports and dementia. The aim of this event is to inform the public of potential risks of head injury from contact sport, while also hearing from the lived experiences of those affected either directly or indirectly by dementia.
Chaired by Prof StJohn Crean, we will be hearing from football manager David Moyes, daughter of former WBA, Notts County and England centre forward Jeff Astle who was diagnosed with dementia at only 55, Dawn Astle (Co-Founder of The Jeff Astle Foundation), and UCLan lecturer in physical education and sport, Dan Orwin. In addition, UCLan Associate Lecturer and dementia researcher Wesley Ward will deliver a short presentation on the role of inflammation in dementia.
This event is open to everyone.
