Your employer will apply for a Degree Apprenticeship. Once they have applied, there are a few things that you need to do before you can enrol.
We'll email you with the relevant steps at the appropriate time. You can also email us if you have any questions during the process.
Jump ahead to:
1. Initial meeting
We'll arrange a meeting between you, your employer, the course lead and our business development officer. This is required under the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) rules.
This meeting will just make sure that the Degree Apprenticeship meets everyone's needs.
2. Complete an online application form
Your employer will register you with our online application portal called Maytas. Once they have done this, you'll receive an email with a link to an online application form. You need to complete this form and upload your qualification certificates.
3. Identity verification
Next, you'll need to verify your identity. This is an important step, which helps us to comply with regulations and prevent fraud. This can be completed online. We'll email it to you via Docusign.
We accept the following types of identification:
- Passport
- Driver’s licence
We can also accept a birth certificate or National Insurance card via email.
4. Initial skills scan
You'll need to complete an initial skills scan as part of your onboarding process. We'll email this to you at the same time as your identity verification.
The skills scan will assess your current knowledge, skills and behaviour in relation to your job role and chosen Degree Apprenticeship. Remember, we don't expect you to be an expert because you're on the course to learn.
You will score yourself between 1 and 10 for each outcome:
- 1-4 means you have little to no prior knowledge.
- 5-8 means you have some knowledge, but need further training.
- 9-10 means you're an expert and don't need any further training.
Please note that if you score yourself too highly, we may determine that you are not suitable for a Degree Apprenticeship. This is because you are already an expert and the course would not enhance your skills.
The skills scan will be seen by your employer and course leader. They will approve it, so that you're ready to move onto the next step.
You will complete regular skills scans throughout your Degree Apprenticeship. This will help to monitor your progress and identify outstanding areas from the degree apprenticeship standards for improvement.
5. Disability disclosure and Additional Learner Support
You will have the opportunity to disclose a disability. This can help us make sure you have the support you need during your Degree Apprenticeship. We offer a great range of support for disabled students, as well as specific support for apprentices.
You can also complete an Additional Learner Support (ALS) QuickScan. This is a voluntary assessment which can identify any additional support you might need. By sharing this information, we can better support you and enhance your learning experience. Email us to request the QuickScan.
It's especially important to complete this if you have a formal diagnosis of a learning difficulty or have previously received additional support. It can also help if you suspect you may have a learning difficulty that hasn't been diagnosed.
6. Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) assessment
The BKSB is an online assessment of your English and Maths abilities. This will help us tailor your learning and identify areas where you might need additional support.
We will provide you with a link to the initial diagnostic assessments. It will take around 20 minutes to complete each assessment. Please ensure you complete the assessments on your own, so we can get an idea of your abilities.
7. Final checks
Before you start your course, you will need to sign a Training Plan and the Apprentice Agreement via Docusign. Your employer will also complete a Due Diligence checklist and an Apprenticeship Training Services Agreement. This is to ensure compliance with the ESFA funding rules.
Admissions will complete their checks to make sure they have everything needed to process your application, such as qualifications. Please check and respond to any emails as this will help progress your application.
8. Enrol on your Degree Apprenticeship
Once you have completed the above steps, you'll be able to enrol on your Degree Apprenticeship.
