Getting a new product or service from concept to being market-ready can be a long and arduous journey. There are many hurdles to clear along the way and it is easy to get lost or stalled.
The Medical Innovation & Commercialisation Accelerator Programme is a collaborative project funded through European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) monies involving the University of Central Lancashire and the four Lancashire NHS Trusts.
The focus of our programme is to support those staff on the front line who are uniquely placed to identify inefficiencies in the health care system. Developing solutions that can demonstrate value in meeting a clinical need, providing demonstrable health benefits to patients and patient care, whilst helping to drive down the cost of healthcare delivery.
However, many of those staff find it a huge step to take these solutions through to commercial products and services and one that many have no knowledge of or skills to engage in.
To support clinical and non-clinical staff within the Trusts, we have brought together a team of experienced professionals who bring significant expertise and insights. Our team has created a portfolio of services, tools and resources based on their direct experience with front line innovators.
We can support you through each stage of the go-to-market journey to transform ideas and innovations into reality via a step-by-step process of refining. We can help test the idea, analyse the market opportunity, develop the business model, and license or launch a new start-up company to commercially exploit the opportunity.

Who is it for?
Any staff member employed by the Lancashire NHS Trusts who has an idea or is working on research or an invention or process delivery improvement that has the potential to improve or create new approaches, practices, treatments, technologies, or services to healthcare delivery.
I am delighted with the progress of the MedIComm programme and the service from the University around this sub-regional, networked interaction for NHS Trusts in Lancashire and South Cumbria (L&SC). L&SC has traditionally lacked connectivity and trained personnel/experts in commercialisation, IP and entrepreneurialism. MedIComm is already threading this together for our four acute Trusts and the University with staff and know-how.
