Women in Cyber: Lancashire

Students Hannah and Paula are active members of the Women in Cyber group at the University of Central Lancashire. As part of the group, they took the lead in organising the Women in Cyber: Lancashire event, creating a platform for women to connect and thrive in tech and cybersecurity.

When we launched the Women in Cyber group, we had one clear mission: to empower women to explore and thrive in the world of technology and cybersecurity. Partnering with the North West Cybersecurity Cluster (NWCSC), a nonprofit organization supporting cybersecurity professionals across the region, we aimed to create a space for connection, collaboration, and opportunity. Since then, we’ve grown to over 40 members and recently hosted the Women in Cyber: Lancashire event.

This event was all about showcasing what the technology industry has to offer while celebrating and empowering women in a traditionally male-dominated field. Hosted in partnership with the NWCSC, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for attendees to network, learn, and gain inspiration from experts who have successful careers in tech and cybersecurity. Hearing their personal stories and advice for navigating the industry left many of us motivated to take the next step in our own journeys.

There was a range of attendees including students, alumni, academics and industry professionals. Everyone was encouraged to collaborate, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussions while stepping out of our comfort zones. One of the most powerful messages shared was that “We can be anything we want to be.”

The future for our Women in Cyber group is exciting. We’re currently applying for a scholarship to attend a major conference in Dallas which would be an incredible opportunity. We’re also planning social events for the group and looking to host and participate in more workshops, conferences, and networking events in the future.
