Preston is starting to become my second home, it’s full of familiar faces and nothing is far from where you live. Whether you live in accommodation close to town, or on campus, everything you need is only a 10-minute walk away.
I’ve made friends from my course but also many through different societies such as the Islamic society and Sports Society. There are societies for loads of different activities and beliefs. They all make you feel at home and help you bond with friends in a different way from your course. These friends will never be far from you as you always end up finding them in town or the student centre making it feel like a close-knit community. I’ve loved having them over, making dinner for them and going to society events like the fabulous MedBall. The MedBall takes place every year and there are also countless charity and food parties organised.

You can also decorate your room and make your Pinterest visions come to life. Using Wilko, B&M or The Range to decorate your place, it makes it feel cosier and becomes your safe space to relax or do your uni work. Decorating was one of my favourite things to do. I've added fairy lights, photos, new duvet covers and coordinated things by colour and design. No matter what room you have or where you stay, you can make any place feel like your own.

Another thing that you may love about Preston is shopping! Who doesn’t love shopping? Clothing stores and shopping centres are available in Preston city centre from River Island to Next. You also have more further out shopping places like Deepdale retail park. When you get tired of shopping you can grab a bite to eat, from Pizza Hut to Subway. Or if you don’t fancy shopping catch the latest screening in cinema at VUE or Odeon. Train connections are also strong in Preston, having many popular cities such as Manchester and Liverpool a direct train away.
My favourite place to relax or have a picnic is Avenham Park. An enormous park with many walking trails, sensory gardens, a cute cafe and a perfect place to soak up some sun. There’s a bridge which looks over the river that runs through the park. This is a beautiful place to watch the sunset or place a lock on the bridge with your partner to make your love eternal. How romantic?!
