It was the remarkable support available for International students and the emphasis placed on practical experience for those studying on a computing course that led Chaitali to choose the University of Central Lancashire.
My first impression of UCLan was amazing. The Student Immigration and Compliance Team at UCLan was available to help with resolving issues that had come up due to an error I had made prior to collecting my BRP. I found this really mattered as I was a new student in a new country needing immediate help and guidance. This, and so much more, was available at UCLan.
The most enjoyable part of studying MSc Computing with professional placement was the laboratory work. It was the perfect time and opportunity to practically implement the theoretical study covered in lectures. I found all the lab sessions very interactive and enjoyed the support of faculty members. I found all the tutors and professors quite helpful. I remember I used to book one-to-one appointments with tutors to clear my doubts and when I emailed them, they always replied on time.
The challenging part of the course was finding a placement. I ended up in a difficult situation due to COVID-19 but my hard work paid off and I was able to secure a placement. UCLan has a dedicated Careers team who help students with job applications, mock interviews and writing CVs and cover letters following the UK format. This came in handy for me when looking for my placement.
I was impressed by the various facilities provided by UCLan and the freebies available to students like the free certification language courses, bus service and the sports/gym membership. I also liked its location – Preston is closely connected to all big cities like London, Manchester, Liverpool via the train and buses which run frequently.
