Shaping tomorrow's skies

Altitude

As we continue to expand our presence beyond the surface of the Earth, there’s a growing need for new ideas and thinking. This will ensure humanity maximises the unique perspectives and benefits that arise from operating in the air and in space.

We believe unlocking the full potential of the future requires a culture of curiosity and hands-on exploration. This approach will inspire a new generation of graduates, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

Pushing the boundaries of exploration

We're establishing a pioneering, interdisciplinary air and space innovation facility. It will be dedicated to pushing the boundaries of exploration into our skies and beyond.

Through advancing research into the development of cutting-edge technologies, we will challenge convention. We'll foster connections, build collaborations and empower individuals and communities to shape tomorrow’s skies.

Our courses in air and space

We aim to break down barriers and provide accessible pathways for individuals. This will allow them to engage in education and careers in aerospace, space, and digital technologies.

Student case studies

Rocketry

Our students had the exciting opportunity to lead the development of rockets for the Mid-Powered National Rocketry Championships. They also participated in the MACH-24 High-Powered International Rocket/CanSat launch competition at a future spaceport in Argyll, Scotland.

Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL)

Each year, our students take the lead in tackling the annual IMECHE Design Challenge. Here they confront a “real-world” engineering problem. They design, build, present, and operate a device that meets strict technical specifications.

Business support

As an industry partner you'll get access to cutting edge expertise, resources, and technologies. Alongside this, you'll get technical and engineering support. We can advise on how the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles can help the development of new products to market, boosting market growth.

Business case studies

LIDZ Ceres long range drone with petrol engine 2
Airrie Unmanned Aircraft Services

We partnered with Airrie Unmanned Aircraft Services, a dynamic startup. Together, we helped them secure a highly competitive tender from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to develop and test-fly their aircraft. This was an impressive feat against much larger and more experienced competitors.

IR Kinetics LTD

Since 2022, the University and IR Kinetics LTD have teamed up to create and prototype an innovative system of infrared beacons for vehicle tracking. This cutting-edge project involves detecting these beacons in real-time using drones equipped with cameras that can pick up emitted infrared (IR) light.

LIDZ F450 Quadcopter
Forsberg Services LTD

Forsberg Services LTD is at the forefront of GNSS antenna design, delivering solutions that prioritise resilience and anti-jamming capabilities for a wide range of applications, from civil to defence sectors. In an exciting collaboration with the University, they tested a state-of-the-art jamming detector mounted on a drone. The goal was to explore new possibilities and expand its deployment.

Research

Our research will be collaborative and cross-disciplinary to ensure we are able to accelerate the pace of innovation. We'll work with academics and organisations from multiple fields of study to drive significant research breakthroughs.
