Sarah Brennan
Sarah is an Associate Lecture in Organic Chemistry here at UCLan. She teaches Chemistry and its applications in a range of subjects throughout the university. Her research interests focus on organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Her PhD explores the development of new light activated antimicrobial drugs to help combat antimicrobial resistance.
Sarah's passion for teaching has enabled her to deliver lectures and laboratory sessions in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biomedicine, and Forensic Science courses. Furthermore, Sarah works within a small team to encourage young people to pursue chemistry in further education by running on-campus events, and assisting in chemistry shows for the Lancashire Science Festival.
Sarah obtained her MChem (Hons) Chemistry here at the University of Central Lancashire researching Thioxanthones as photo antimicrobial chemotherapy agents under the supervision of Dr. Rob B. Smith. She has since begun a PhD within the Smith Group, exploring the synthesis and development of novel near infrared photoactive dyes.
