Sahal Patel

Sahal Patel is a Lecturer in Optometry & Ophthalmic Dispensing after joining us in 2023. This was after a decade in a corporation with a range of professional responsibilities. Sahal is currently registered as an Optometrist with the General Optical Council (GOC), and also holds registration with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the College of Optometrists (MCOptom).

Sahal is currently teaching across both our BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Dispensing and MSc Optometry courses.

Sahal's interest in optics first peaked at age 17 through his work in an optics lab. He then progressed onto the BSc Ophthalmic Dispensing course, qualifying in 2015. After working for two years in practice via a multiple chain, he started his Optometry Accelerated course in 2018, completed his pre-registration year in the COVID-19 pandemic qualifying in 2021.

Sahal was a pre-registration supervisor for Student Dispensing Opticians between 2017-2023. He has since gone on to complete multiple postgraduate certificates in various areas of Optometry and hopes to continue studying by going on to complete his Independent Prescribing qualification.
