Sabeeth Gunasekera
Sabeeth is an enthusiastic academic with a rich and diverse background in Medical Sciences, showcasing a particular passion for Medical Microbiology, Molecular Cell Biology and Biochemistry.
Sabeeth is currently serving as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Medical Sciences and teaches Biological and Chemical Systems, Body Systems, Biochemistry, Physiology and Scientific Communication Skills in Medicine for MBBS 6-year program since November 2023.
With an extensive career in academia for more than a decade, Sabeeth has held various academic and administrative positions covering all the secondary, further and higher education sectors in Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
Prior to his role here, Sabeeth served as a Tutor in Biological Sciences at the University of Nottingham International College and as a part-time Lecturer in Clinical and Applied Sciences at Leeds Beckett University. He was also a Lecturer in Biology at City of Wolverhampton College, UK. He also serves as a moderator for Access Programs at AIM Qualifications.
From May 2017 to January 2022, he held the position of Senior Lecturer/Deputy Registrar at Horizon Campus in Sri Lanka. Prior to this, he served as a Chemistry Master at Leeds International School from November 2011 to April 2016. He started his professional journey as a Graduate Intern at Medical Research Institute, Colombo. His diverse contributions extend beyond these roles, encompassing responsibilities as a Visiting Lecturer, Curriculum Developer, Examiner, Master Teacher, and Industrial Expert at esteemed institutions such as the National Institute of Education, The Open University of Sri Lanka, ICBT Campus, and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, showcasing a comprehensive and multifaceted professional background.
Sabeeth is presently a doctoral researcher with his research interest centred around patenting in medical innovations in personalised medicine. He also interested in research in the areas of antibiotic resistance, antimicrobial products of bacteria and fungi and teaching pedagogy. In addition to his background in science and education, he holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English Law. His academic qualifications, combined with a keen interest in medical law ethics further enrich his interdisciplinary approach to education and research.
