Pete is responsible for the development, delivery and assessment of the new BVMS curriculum. This includes the integration and assessment of clinically relevant activity throughout the BVMS course to achieve the RCVS Day One Competencies. Pete's research interests include bovine mastitis and calf health. He has published in a range of peer-reviewed journals and authored several textbook chapters. He has sat on a number of national and international committees focussed on the health and welfare of cattle and provides business support consultancy advice to dairy farm businesses throughout the UK.
Pete qualified from the University of Bristol Veterinary School in July 2004. He worked as a general practitioner at a large mixed practice in Suffolk for 6 years. In May 2010, he took up a dairy residency at The University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science which entailed a combination of clinical work and research/undergraduate teaching. During this, he successfully completed the ECBHM residency programme to become a Diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management. He completed a full-time 4 year PhD project funded by the BBSRC and AHDB Dairy in 2016 investigating decision-making around mastitis control in dairy cows. He was a Clinical Lecturer in Farm Animal Population Health at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science for 6 years prior to joining us.
His clinical activity, international profile and extensive KE activities, have enabled him to play a major role in translating research into impact, and delivery of high-quality evidence-based clinical teaching.
