Dr Paul Taylor
Paul is an esteemed member of the Department of Psychology and Humanities. With a robust academic background and a passion for advancing knowledge in the field of psychology, Paul has made significant contributions to both research and teaching throughout his career. Paul is the Course Leader for BSc Psychology (Hons).
Paul serves as the Course Leader for the BSc Psychology programme. He plays a pivotal role in curriculum development, programme management, and student support. As Course Leader, he ensures that the programme remains current and relevant, incorporating the latest advancements in psychology research and practice into the curriculum. He is deeply invested in enhancing the student experience, implementing innovative teaching strategies, and fostering a supportive learning environment. He collaborates with faculty members to continuously assess and improve the quality of teaching and learning within the programme, striving to empower students to excel academically and professionally.
Paul returned to education as a mature student, completing an Access to Higher Education course at Lancaster and Morecambe College before undertaking an undergraduate Psychology degree at Lancaster University. He stayed at Lancaster to complete a PhD in the area of Perception and Motor control before moving here to take up a lecturing position in 2003.
Since joining us, Paul has undertaken numerous roles including programme lead for foundation Psychology, module leader, and deputy admissions tutor. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he actively mentors graduate students, guiding them in their research endeavours and helping shape the next generation of psychologists. His commitment to student success is evident in the positive relationships he builds with his mentees.
Paul's research interests span a wide range of topics within cognitive and experimental psychology and he frequently collaborates with colleagues in the School of Health, Social Work and Sport. His research findings have been published in reputable journals and presented at national and international conferences, contributing valuable insights to the broader scientific community.
Beyond the academic realm, Dr Taylor is involved in community outreach initiatives that aim to promote the understanding of psychology among the public. He frequently participates in public lectures, workshops, and collaborative projects that bridge the gap between academic research and everyday life.
Paul's multifaceted contributions to research, teaching, program leadership, and community engagement make him a valuable asset to us. His work reflects a commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering academic excellence, and inspiring the next generation of psychologists.
