Dr Parthiv Kavi
Parthiv is a Senior Lecturer in Energy and Sustainability in the school. He is a materials scientist specialising in nuclear waste separation and nanotechnology. He is interested in developing sustainable solutions for waste management, finding second-life applications in the circular economy, and solutions to improve energy efficiency. He has a keen interest to engage with businesses and provide knowledge transfer.
In his current role, Parthiv is responsible for developing new courses and modules. He leads energy and sustainability-related modules. He also teaches in other areas of engineering. In addition to teaching, he is an active researcher. His main areas of research are nuclear waste reprocessing, synthesis and characterisation of novel materials for various applications. For example: separation, catalysis, coatings, etc. He is currently supervising a postdoc, several PhDs, MSc by research, UCLan summer interns and final-year dissertation projects. In addition, he also contributes to Entrepreneurship and Start-ups for Engineers (EASE zone), writing bids for internal and external funding.
Parthiv gained Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Biotechnology from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) with First Class in 2009. This was before attaining Master of Science (MSc) in Bio nanotechnology with First Class from The University of Sheffield in 2011. He gained a PhD from UCLan in 2016, and a Postgraduate certificate in higher education (PGCert) in 2021. Parthiv worked as a Postdoctoral research assistant here between 2016 and 2017. He previously worked as a graduate researcher at the University of Sheffield for 3 months in 2010. His past experience also includes a role as a production chemist in Kavi Chemicals Ltd between 2007-2009 before working as a production engineer at Span Diagnostics Ltd between (2009-2010).
