Laura Rettie (Campbell)
Laura currently works as a Doctoral Teaching Assistant (DTA). She completed her BSc (Hons) Psychology with us in 2017 and returned to the University in March 2019 and is currently completing her PhD in Cognitive Psychology under the supervision of Dr John E. Marsh, Professor Simon P. Liversedge and Dr Federica Degno (Bournemouth University). Laura is a graduate member of the Experimental Psychology Society and the British Psychological Association.
Laura's role as a DTA focuses on providing support on a range of modules across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses available. These include: Research Methods and Statistics, PS1020 Introduction to Developmental and Social Psychology, PS2010 Psychological Research Methods, Advanced Methods in Psychology, and Research Methods and Statistics for Clinical Psychologists. Laura is also involved in outreach activities that take place within the department and with our partner institutes. She supports the teaching, marking and student support within these modules.
Upon graduating with us in 2017 with a first class BSC (Hons) in Psychology, Laura was awarded the Hugh Wagner Memorial Prize for The Best Undergraduate Project, the School Award for Best Research Project by a student on the course, as well as the School Award for the Best Overall Performance. Prior to joining us, Laura worked in several external admin roles before returning to us in 2018 to work as an assistant on the Future U project whilst continuing to volunteer with us. She then returned to our to start her role as a DTA in March 2019.

Laura's PhD research focuses on the effects of auditory distraction on reading. She is particularly interested in exploring these effects using our state-of-the-art eye tracking technology. She is a member of the Perception, Cognition, and Neuroscience group within the department, and the wider North West Visual Cognition Group.
