Dr Jenni Barrett
Jenni teaches and supervises postgraduate students in the business and management field. Her main expertise lies in the management of team-based creativity and innovation, particularly in digital and hybrid environments. Jenni's research also investigates inclusivity and equity as a driver of business performance. Jenni is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Jenni is Course Leader for the MSc International Business and Management programme and teaches the module on Sustainable Management and Ethics in this course. Jenni's research has been published widely and, combined with her background in the construction industry, underpins her role as a core team member for the global network, Women In BIM (Building Information Modelling). In this role, Jenni collaborates with industry partners to promote gender equity in the sector via research and tailored support initiatives.
Following 15 years of experience in the construction industry managing and designing large, complex urban regeneration projects throughout the UK, Jenni joined us to teach architectural management to architecture and construction students. Jenni then performed the role of Course Leader for the Masters in Architecture programme here.
During this time, she completed her PhD, with UCLan's School of Psychology, exploring a psychological perspective of innovative performance in built environment design teams. This work investigated team performance in face-to-face and digital environments which, following the Covid-19 pandemic, became a much-needed area of expertise across business sectors, not just in construction. Her findings also precipitated her recent research on gender equity and identity in digital workspaces.
Following her move to the School of Management, Jenni continues this research and it informs her teaching and supervision of PhD and DBA students. Jenni regularly delivers talks and lectures on this subject at international academic conferences and global industry events and is also a contributor to courses at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership.
