Jane Cleary
Jane is the Co-course Leader for our BA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with a Modern Language course. She teaches on our BA TESOL and English as an International Language courses. She has worked here since 2001 as part of the TESOL team. Jane is always focussed on the student experience, student support, employability and maximising potential. She won our 'Student Support Award, 2022' as voted for by students in the Golden Roses awards. She has also been shortlisted for Lecturer of the Year, 2021; Best Course Team for BA TESOL, 2020; Best Course Team BA TESOL, Winner 2017; Real-world Teaching, Shortlist, 2017 and Personal Tutor of the Year, Shortlist, 2016.
Jane teaches modules across all years on our BA TESOL with a Modern Language programme including teaching on the Trinity CertTESOL professional qualification. She has also worked in a variety of other roles across the wider university in: the development of the student experience, e-learning programmes, academic skills, employability, coordinated British Council accreditation and the design and delivery of programmes for international students.
Jane has previously worked as an English language teacher, teacher educator, materials and course developer and manager and in the public and private sectors in Spain, Hungary, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, the UK and online. She has developed and taught on a wide range of courses including General English to adults and young learners, ESOL, Academic English, Business English, English for Interpreters and Translators and English for Medicine.
She has also directed and taught on Trinity CertTESOL courses and developed and taught on teacher education programmes for teachers from a variety of backgrounds. She has worked as a Cambridge examiner in the UK and as an examiner for IELTS for the British Council in Hungary.
