Gail Frampton
Gail is a Senior Lecturer in Children, Schools and Families. Gail's passion lies in the community and is driven by professional practice around children and young people. After achieving her NNEB she worked in a Bangladeshi Women's Welfare Project in Longsight, Manchester, and later established a co-operative parent support group and one of Manchester's first after school clubs.
Gail was a founding member of a local group Parents of Black Children, campaigning against racism and recognising the impact of racial trauma on Black, Asian and Global Majority children.
Gail teaches Professional Practice, Pedagogy and Play and coordinates professional placements to ensure a high quality learning experiences for students on the Children Schools and Families course.
Gail has a Masters Degree in Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Gail is an experienced early years practitioner with a variety of interests that inform her teaching. For example, she is an advocate of children learning through play, and was part of a small team of academics who presented at the prestigious NEON Summer Symposium (2019) and published their work:- Frampton, G., Seat, H. & Scholes, V. Gail is part of a network 'Not Fine in School' and 'Square Peg' looking at children's neurodivergence and school distress. Gail's academic discipline is Sociology and she has a keen interest in the art of storytelling. Gail was a founding member of Chorlton Telling Tales, and in her previous role Gail established a Kitcha Group - Sew and Tell in Oldham collaborating with a local Sure Start setting. Gail is currently a member of #creativeHE (wordpress.com) a HE Creative Group who support pedagogical rebels and recently published Frampton, G. In 2019 Gail coordinated and chaired a unique conference for students and the community Autism Pride and Gail is currently an Advisor honorarium for a PhD student in the Carnegie School of Education, Leeds Beckett University, whose thesis is a study around Autistic LGBTQIA Identity and Education.
Gail is a working class academic; an important statement for Gail as her working class heritage is a strong reference point for her identity and lived experience. Gail has been an active participant in the trade union and labour movement, in her younger days she was the NW Regional Chairperson of the Labour Party Young Socialists, a member of CND, Chair of Withington Labour Party Women's Section and an active member of the Anti Poll Tax Union and she has a passion for children and young peoples rights.
Gail has been a lecturer at City College in Manchester and Oldham College. A Senior Lecturer at University of Huddersfield and University Campus Oldham.
Gail has written and developed Foundation Degrees in Children and Young People for Teesside University, Entry Level Foundation Degree validated by Sheffield Hallam University and a BA (Hons) Education Early Years degree for Sheffield Hallam University. Gail has been a Course Leader and a Faculty Lead managing a range of courses in a variety of disciplines, including Criminology. Psychology, Counselling and Performing Arts and Entertainment.
