Claire Chattell
Claire is an experienced Dental Therapist and educator with over 24 years of experience in the dental field. She joined us as a Dental Therapist in March 2015, where she worked in the dental clinic, providing treatment to patients and supporting postgraduate dental students. Claire’s expertise also expanded into epidemiological studies, and she served as the regional epidemiology trainer and Northwest benchmark, responsible for the training and assessment of examiners across the region. In this role, she organised annual calibration events, liaised with the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities, and conducted fieldwork to collect public health data.
In July 2024, Claire transitioned to the Blackpool Dental Education Centre, where she now serves as a Clinical Supervisor for the Dental Therapy programme. She supervises both dental therapy and dental students, as well as teaching and mentoring first-year students in the Phantom Head Clinic as part of her role. Claire's wealth of experience spans both NHS and private practice settings, which has greatly contributed to her ability to guide and educate the next generation of dental professionals.
Claire's journey in dentistry began with her NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing in 2003, and she spent the next six years building her expertise, including qualifying as an NVQ assessor. In 2009, she furthered her education by pursuing a Combined Diploma in Dental Therapy. Throughout her career, Claire has remained passionate about patient care, with a particular focus on educating future dental care professionals. This passion led her to begin her own educational journey in 2022, and she is now in her final year of the MSc Dental Education here.
