Abdelrahman (Dudi) Youssef
Dudi is a highly experienced mechanical engineer and PhD candidate with over a decade of academic and industry involvement in teaching, research, and engineering design. With significant expertise in Motorsport and Mechanical Engineering, Dudi has been committed to driving academic excellence through a variety of teaching, administrative, and extracurricular activities.
Dudi is currently a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering with an active research portfolio and membership in the Jost Institute for Tribotechnology. He is the Module Leader for ER1006 Fundamentals of Engineering Science and he teaches ER1204 Race car anatomy. Dudi's current research is reducing friction losses in piston-liner tribo-pair. His tenure at various institutions has seen him deliver impactful lectures, lead engineering projects, and create engaging learning environments that foster practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
Since 2019, Dudi has contributed to the University as an Associate Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. At UCLan, he has been instrumental in lecturing, student support, exam invigilation, and assessment marking. Dudi delivered or supported a variety of modules in areas such as Racecar Anatomy, CAD and Simulations, and Mechanical System Reliability.
Prior to his role here, Dudi served as an Assistant Lecturer and received an MSc scholarship from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). In his role at AASTMT, he was responsible for teaching up to 14 different automotive and mechanical engineering modules and took on curriculum development to meet contemporary industry demands. As the key staff of automotive major at AASTMT, Dudi oversaw academic advising, coordinated administrative tasks, and organized industry-related events for students, such as visits to service centres and career workshops. His leadership helped double enrolment within his courses and prepared students for the demands of the engineering sector. Additionally, he spearheaded the creation of “Sharks Racing Team,” the AASTMT’s first Formula Student team, inspiring many students to engage in practical automotive competitions.
Alongside his academic career, Dudi has maintained industry involvement as a part-time, self-employed engineer, offering technical consultations to both certified and independent automotive service centres. He has overseen various engineering projects, including the design of race car roll cages, powered vehicles for disabled individuals, electric buggies, and even kitchen and furniture designs. His technical skills extend to developing mechanical product prototypes, conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural assessment, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for aerodynamics analysis, and handling all aspects of project budgeting and scheduling.
Further, Dudi gained hands-on industry experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with ProMEP for Engineering Consultation, where he designed key components for a 25 MW Caterpillar genset system. His work involved CFD analysis for heat exchangers and compliance inspections, and he served as a technical mentor for junior engineers, sharing his knowledge and enhancing their engineering capabilities.
