Students who are awarded advanced entry on to a full-time undergraduate programme will also be charged at £385 for any full year (six modules) awards of RPEL.
Lots of our students come from different backgrounds. Many have built up a wide range of abilities and transferable skills. You may have qualifications from a previous institution or experience working in a relevant industry. If so, you might be able to claim credit on your degree. This is called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
RPL can come in two forms:
- Certificated (RPCL)
RPCL recognises prior learning where you completed an assessment where you received a certificate, such as a higher education course you completed before coming to university. - Experiential (RPEL)
RPEL is the knowledge you’ve learned through work, study or life experiences. More than just spending time in an industry, you’ll have to show a portfolio of work to prove what you’ve learnt from that experience.
Fees and costs
Making a claim for recognition of prior learning is free for certificated study (RPCL). Claims for experiential study (RPEL) can depend on your student status.
Claiming with a qualification more than five years old
Credit will only normally be awarded for learning which has taken place within the five years immediately prior to the start of the course unless you can provide evidence that your learning has continued in a professional or similar context. In such cases the Course Leader may decide to set an assessment to test your current knowledge.
