Who is the Assistant Practitioner Higher Apprenticeship course for?

This course is for healthcare workers who want to progress their career to become an assistant practitioner (AP). You must work within the health and social care sector to study this Higher Apprenticeship.

Assistant practitioners (APs) are healthcare professionals who work alongside registered healthcare professionals. They work to provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals.

Future careers as an assistant practitioner

As an assistant practitioner you will assist in total patient assessment and coordinate care. You'll perform clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic activities. APs work in various settings. This includes rehabilitation, radiography and community mental health.

Entry requirements

  • Admissions decisions will be based on the following standard criteria:
  • 72 – 80 UCAS Points
  • BTEC: Merit, Pass, Pass
  • Access to Higher Education Diploma: 72 - 80 points
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4
  • Where a candidate is able to demonstrate substantial experiential learning, from their involvement in the Health and Social Care sector, this can be supported by their employer, this will be considered
  • Where a candidate does not have experience, appropriate qualifications at Level 3 will be required
  • Non-standard entry route: Due to widening participation, accreditation of prior experiential learning will be given full consideration. This will be measured with input from employing organisations, references, application and interview process
  • Proof of DBS clearance will be confirmed by the supporting organisation

Information for employers

An apprentice is employed to do a real job while studying for a formal qualification, usually for one day a week at one of our campuses or training centres.

This course meets apprenticeship standards and your apprentice will have the knowledge and skills to either succeed in their chosen career or progress to the next apprenticeship level.
