Meet Lois

I have learnt about some exciting opportunities through careers fairs which is incredibly valuable as I go into my third year.

Subject specific support

The Careers Team offers support for each subject. As a business student, I was able to get advice that was beneficial for my subject. My course leader arranged a session for my class where a member of the careers team showed us all of the great resources we could access and provided some general advise for applying for roles related to our course.

CV clinic

As a second year student, it’s important that I begin to prepare for the graduate role applications which will open in Year 3. Additionally as I had applied to complete an internship during the summer, I wanted to prepare a strong application.

The CV is an important part of the application process as it gives recruiters the first impression. Therefore I wanted to make sure that mine was the best it could be so I booked a session in the CV clinic. A careers officer was then able to review and give me some specific advice. I was able to implement this and improve my CV.

Mock interview

As I had never completed an interview in marketing before, I booked in for a mock interview. I was able to include specific questions I wanted to practice. After each question, I was given feedback and could try again. After this I felt much more confident in my ability to answer questions using specific and relevant examples that best illustrate my experience.

In the interview for my internship, I felt confident in my ability to answer specific questions and could use techniques so that I could communicate my experiences efficiently. I was successful and received great feedback from the employer. I also feel more prepared for the graduate job search.

Additional

The Careers Team also hosts career fairs across the year so that students can network and learn about local and large businesses. I have learnt about some exciting opportunities through these which is incredibly valuable as I go into my third year.

Additionally, students can access the Handshake service which is a careers platform for students. There are resources available, and students can contact the Careers Team. Additionally it is possible to apply for both internal and external vacancies which are being constantly updated.

Careers is located in the upper ground floor of the Student Centre and can be contacted via email.
