Nicol has lived in Preston for the past three years and it has given her the opportunity to explore what the city has to offer.
There are so many restaurants and cafes to visit, many of which aren’t your chain places and are individual to Preston itself, such as Coco’s Soul Food and Jaffa. As well as this, there are so many nature-based and shopping places that I just love.
Avenham and Miller Park
This is one of my favourite places to go and it is just a short walk from the University campus too. The park is huge, it consists of a café (with great hot chocolates), a gorgeous zen Japanese garden and beautiful scenery. There is a river and lots of space if you want a quiet place to read your book or to have a picnic on the nice summer days. It’s also a great place if you want to ride your bike or go for a run too.
Miller Arcade
Miller Arcade is located in the centre of town. What appeals to me the most about the Arcade is the architecture and more than a century after it was built, it’s still stunning. You just have to see it! You can also find shops and restaurants including Greek restaurant Olive Tree Brasserie, Heavenly Desserts (perfect for those with a sweet tooth), Rise, Subway and many more.
Preston City Centre
One of the most convenient parts of where the uni campus is located is the fact you’re so close to the city centre. You will find a variety of high street shops, cafes, restaurants and two shopping centres. St George’s (my personal favourite) and Fishergate Shopping Centres both have a different selection of stores. Whether you want Primark, H&M, River Island, Game and beyond, you can go between both centres, as they are only a five-minute walk from each other.
While Preston may be a small city, there is still lots to do and explore outside of the classroom. Everything you need is in walking distance, whether you want to hit the shops or eat at an amazing local restaurant.
