What to take to university

AdviceWelcome

Wondering what to bring with you when you come to university? We've put together an essential checklist so you know exactly what you need to bring before your first week.

Tips for your move

Before we get stuck into the checklists, we have some top tips about your move to university:

Important documents

When you first move to university, it's best to bring a few important documents that you might need for admin and medical purposes. These are some of the most important things you can bring:

Electricals

The electricals you bring will vary depending on your hobbies and what you feel you need for your course.

Stationery

At university you'll be planning and doing a lot of work, so you'll need a good amount of stationery to last you the academic year.

You can also opt to use digital versions of this list. Digital notes can help you save money and space, and can also be easier to organise.

Depending on your course you might need a lot more specialised stationery equipment. Your course leader will explain what you'll need during your course introduction.

Kitchen

We recommend keeping your kitchen as minimal as possible. Try not to have more items than you need, especially duplicates.

Keeping it on the smaller side will keep you in a good habit of washing your dishes so that you can use them for the next meal. If you have duplicate items, you're more likely to let the dishes pile up. You also may be sharing kitchen storage space with others.

Bedroom

Your bedroom will be the main part of your new home while you're studying at university. It's important to make it as comfortable as possible, a place you want to return to after busy days.

Bathroom

What you'll need for your bathroom will vary depending on if you have an en suite room or shared bathroom accommodation.
