The most important part is to plan your moving-in day. Even before you have your essentials checklist complete, it's important to know exactly how you're planning your big move.

We recommend that you:

Know how you're getting to university. Driving by car? Or arriving by public transport? Make sure you're all planned and ready for the big move.
Check your journey on the big day. Make sure that you're prepared for the big journey. Arriving by car? Make sure that you've checked the car will be fine for the journey. Public transport? Make sure to check for cancellations and delays. If somethings goes wrong then,
Make sure you have a backup plan. Car troubles can arrive at any time, and public transport can experience cancellations. Try to make sure you have a Plan B for getting your most essential things to university on your moving-in day.

During our welcome week the Students' Union host a sale with items donated by students moving out of their accommodation or finishing university.

This means you can get essentials and appliances for really cheap, and it's also sustainable too. Money raised by this is invested back into the student experience.

When you arrive on campus you'll have plenty of help and support from both the university staff and some of our current students. They'll help direct you to wherever you need to go, and they'll give you hand with some of your luggage too.

Once you've arrived in your room, spend a little time making it comfortable. Unpack and hang your clothes, get your bedding fitted and spend a little time decorating your room. This will be your new home for quite a bit, so it's best to make it feel homely.

Checklist item	Why you'll need it
Passport	Passports are important 'photo ID.' They're needed for enrolling onto your course, starting a job and sometimes when engaging with government entities.
Driver’s license	A driver's license is also photo ID but in a much smaller form. These are handy for when you need to show proof of age on nights out, in stores, at the cinema etc. You'll also need one of these if you're learning to drive.
University admission acceptance letter	We'll have a copy of all your details on our system but it's handy to have a paper copy for your records.
Course acceptance letter	Again, we will have all this on our system but it's good practice to keep a copy yourself.
Accommodation info & contract	Keep hold of these for your own records. It's important information to have at hand so you check your tenancy details.
Student loan documents	If you keep a copy of these it will make finding your Student Loans Company account details much easier.
Scholarship or bursary letters	Keep a copy of these so you know what you're entitled to. You can double check your incoming payments or course fees to make sure you have received your eligible scholarship or bursary.
Insurance documents	Having these at hand in the event of needing to claim insurance will make starting your claim a lot quicker and easier.
Vaccination history	Important so you can check what vaccinations you've had against which ones you might need. Universities routinely suggest certain vaccinations, so it's handy to know which ones you've already had.
Prescription copies	Very important if you're currently taking medication. This will help with moving GPs and pharmacies.
Bank debit card	Very handy for making payments online or in-person. You can also use Apple, Google or Samsung Pay to keep a copy of your cards on your mobile.
Student discount apps or cards	Brilliant for making savings when shopping online or in-store. You can also use mobile apps such as Unidays or Student Beans to keep a copy on your mobile.
