Professor Ted Smith
Ted teaches Tribology in the School. He is an active researcher with research and publications in hydrodynamic lubrication of bearings and piston rings, flash temperatures of rubbing surfaces, and tribotronics (smart Tribology).
Ted has supervised many PhD students in Tribology and has over 100 publications in this area. His current interest is in the use of hydrogen in internal combustion engines and its influence on friction, wear and lubrication.
Ted began as our Head of Computing Services from 1978 -1997. He was then appointed the Dean of Engineering at Coventry University from 1997-2001. Following this, he worked at M.D. Ted Smith Consulting Ltd from 2003 -2009 whereafter he began as a Research Fellow in a post which he continues to work from 2009.
