Dr Sara Milledge
Sara is a Lecturer in Psychology with research interests that lie in the field of cognitive psychology. In particular, the insight examining eye movements during reading can give into typical and atypical literacy development in children. She also has a wider interest in children’s cognitive development, particularly in the field of visual cognition. She is a member of the Perception, Cognition and Neuroscience (PCN) Research Group here at UCLan.
Sara has published in a number of leading international peer-reviewed journals. She is the lead for the Schools Liaison Scheme and the Mobile Research Unit.
Sara obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Southampton working with Prof. Simon Liversedge and Dr. Hazel Blythe. For her Ph.D., she recorded eye movements during reading to examine the development of parafoveal processing. Parafoveal processing is a skill that can be considered a hallmark of skilled adult reading. Her Ph.D. and M.Sc. were funded by an ESRC 1+3 studentship.
Following completion of her Ph.D., Sara worked with Prof. Kevin Paterson and Prof. Sarah White at the University of Leicester on an ESRC funded project (Pioneering a New Method for Investigating the Neural Correlates of Ageing Effects during Natural Reading).
