Samara Hill
Samara is a Registered Veterinary Nurse who teaches on the 'How to Thrive' theme on the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery course with a specific focus on clinical placement preparation. Samara is a coach and mentor for our BVMS students, supporting their personal and professional development throughout the duration of their five-year degree and up to one year post qualification. Samara supports the assessment of the BVMS students, examining the students for their Objective, Structured, Practical examinations.
Samara has a keen interest in veterinary clinical skills development, with a primary focus on small animal veterinary care. She will be using her knowledge to teach and assess essential clinical skills techniques to students studying the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery course, preparing them for the world of clinical practice. Samara has gained experience over the years in both her clinical and teaching roles, and she will use this when preparing students for their clinical placements as part of the How to Thrive theme, which forms an integral part of the curriculum for the BVMS students.
Samara has extensive experience in coaching and mentoring. She will be using her expertise to prepare students and clinical practice staff for the intra-mural rotations, which allow the students to gain experience in veterinary practice from year 1. Samara is helping to keep EDI an essential component of our ethos and inclusive school culture.
Samara held a nursing position in mixed animal clinical practice for 8 years, where she gained knowledge and expertise nursing a range of species both small and large animals. Samara was a clinical coach in veterinary practice, helping to train the next generation of veterinary nurses, her passion and drive to support, mentor, and coach the future generation of Veterinary Nurses is a role she took great pride in. She stepped into the world of education, teaching on the BSc (Hons) Animal Welfare course at a further education institute, with a specific focus on the nursing of animals and emergency critical care nursing. Samara is proud of her achievements in this role, with all students achieving 100% for all practical and written assessments in the modules she taught for this programme of study.
Samara took on a support role at the same further education institute as a placement officer to support student veterinary nurses. The role involved travelling to practices across the country to support practices to coach student veterinary nurses for the duration of their training. Alongside this, Samara prepared the students for their practical examinations, teaching them the clinical skills they require to become qualified veterinary nurses.
