In late 2022, Kay completed his PhD from the University of Liverpool. His PhD focused on Bioinformatic analysis of liver fluke - Fasciola hepatica genome and evolutionary analysis of selected candidate genes associated with drug resistance. Kay completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice programme at the University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Kay is responsible for the development, delivery, and organising teaching around One Health to our veterinary Medicine and Bioveterinary Sciences degrees. Kay is passionate about teaching, research, and data analysis and is always keen to collaborate.
Kay worked as a Tutor at the University of Liverpool International College (Kaplan International) and as a Demonstrator at the University of Liverpool School of Life Sciences. In these roles, Kay taught various science-related topics to foundation and undergraduate students, such as the use of R for data analysis.
Kay was the Senior Personal Tutor (SPT, Years 1 – 3) and a Lecturer in Veterinary Sciences and Education at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey teaching across the BVMSci curriculum. As the SPT, Kay provided oversight of the personal tutoring scheme in the Veterinary School (Years 1 - 3) working closely with academics and students. He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Sustainability, University of Surrey, working with research-focused staff on various sustainability-related research projects.
