Dr Gonzalo Garcia-Atance Fatjo
Gonzalo has been involved in many different professional activities and roles. He has been design engineer, entrepreneur, researcher and even international aid worker. He teaches in Mechanical and Aerospace degrees. He has expertise in glider design, low Reynolds aerodynamics, cavitation in fluid mechanics, erosion of ceramic materials, numerical methods, mechanical design, bicycle design, tribology and patent writing.
Gonzalo has been granted several patents related to bicycle design and has published articles about cavitation, erosion of ceramics and lubrication of piston segments. He is the creator of ASCENDU bikes.
Gonzalo has been an entrepreneur in several occasions. He is the founder and creator of ASCENDU. He created, designed and manufactured the bikes himself. Gonzalo has done extensive research in the lubrication of piston segments measuring the oil film thickness in a running engine at full power and results are published with the following titles: 'Piston-ring film thickness: theory and experiment compared' and 'Mapping lubricating film thickness, film extent and ring twist for the compression-ring in a firing internal combustion engine'.
He has also made several contributions to knowledge in cavitation and erosion of ceramics that have led to the following articles 'New dimensionless number to predict cavitation in accelerated fluid'; 'Experimental study and analytical model of the cavitation ring region with small diameter ultrasonic horn'; 'Early stage cavitation erosion within ceramics—An experimental investigation' and 'Pseudoplastic deformation pits on polished ceramics due to cavitation erosion'.
