Frank J Harrington
Frank is a qualified BSL/English Interpreter and teaches across both undergraduate and postgraduate BSL/Deaf Studies programmes. He focuses primarily on Translation Theory and Interpreting Theory and Practice, although he also teaches Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Disability Studies. In addition to his work in BSL/Deaf Studies, Frank teaches modules on our MA in Religion, Culture and Society, looking specifically at Religion and Sexuality in the context of the doctrines and teachings of the Abrahamic Faiths. He is currently completing his own PhD in Christian Ethics and Theology.
Frank has authored, co-authored and edited a number of publications (books, book chapters and journal articles) in Interpreting and Translation Studies, and in Religious Studies. His co-authored book 'Interpreting Interpreting: Studies and Reflections on Sign Language Interpreting' was the first of its kind to look at the practicalities of BSL/English Interpreting as discipline within a UK context. He has worked closely with the National Registers of Communication Professionals with Deaf People (NRCPD) to promote BSL/English interpreting as a profession, and he also works closely with Local and National interfaith organisations as part of his role within the RCS programme.
